Explosives Found After Father Shoots Son on Birthday: A Shocking Crime in Incheon

In a horrifying turn of events, a 63-year-old man who fatally shot his own son during a birthday celebration was found to have stored 15 homemade explosives in his home, set to detonate at noon on the same day.

The tragic incident occurred on the evening of July 20th in a high-rise apartment in Songdo International City, Incheon, South Korea. According to police reports, Mr. A used a pipe-shaped homemade firearm to shoot and kill his son, Mr. B, in his 30s, during a gathering that had been organized by Mr. B to celebrate his father’s birthday.

The celebration was attended by Mr. B’s wife, their two children, and some acquaintances. It is believed that during the party, an argument or internal tension led to the father committing the shocking act. After firing two rounds of steel ball-loaded shotgun pellets at his son, Mr. A fled the scene. He was arrested nearly three hours later in Seoul around 12:20 a.m. on July 21.

Following his arrest, Mr. A confessed to having planted homemade explosives in his residence in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul. Police, upon reaching the location, discovered 15 explosive devices connected to ignition systems. These were found inside common household containers like plastic bottles, detergent containers, and milk cartons, all rigged with timers set for a noon detonation. A police official confirmed that had they not been removed in time, there was a “real risk of explosion.”

In addition to the two firearms used in the attack, authorities also discovered nine more gun barrels in Mr. A’s vehicle, as well as multiple metal pipes in his home. Investigators suspect Mr. A built the weapons himself and may have acquired ammunition separately.

Police are currently deploying criminal profilers to analyze Mr. A’s motive and the overall planning behind the crime. The presence of explosives and multiple homemade weapons suggests this was not an impulsive act but a premeditated and deeply disturbing operation.

As the investigation continues, the public remains in shock over how a birthday celebration turned into a fatal and potentially larger tragedy. Authorities have assured that every effort is being made to uncover the full truth behind this horrifying incident.
