The World’s Largest Frying Pan Isn’t in Iowa

According to my research, it’s in Rose Hill, NC

While the world’s largest frying pan might not be in Iowa, Iowa’s largest frying pan is darned close. And, one big advantage is that it doesn’t stink. Yep, the largest frying pan in Rose Hill, North Carolina is rumored to smell oily. Not to disparage the reigning largest pan, I’ve read that it’s covered, sitting on its 40 gas burners. Some commenters said they couldn’t even go into the building.

Henceforth, Iowa is the proud owner of the World’s Largest Always Visible Frying Pan! This giant is a mile off Highway 20, just past Brandon’s minuscule downtown, outside the community center. No traffic lights just a straight shot to the pan!

Wouldn’t it be fun to show up there on the third Sunday in September for their annual Cowboy Breakfast? They’d have to wonder what happened, right? (It’s the 15th this year.)

After leaving Brandon, I made my way to my sister’s house in DeWitt, Iowa. It was a three-hour trip from Katie’s.

DeWitt was voted one of the best places to live in Iowa for young families. A community of slightly over 5000, it has the most impressive fire station I’ve ever seen in a small town. Their library is beautiful, and they have a big, well-equipped park downtown.

Heading out of town is the historical society and a sculpture of renowned artist, and DeWitt native, John Bloom. It’s a depiction from one of his well-known paintings, Shucking Corn.

My sister and brother-in-law’s new home backs up to a protected wildlife trail. Their views are amazing! They’ve set up bird feeders and we were entertained by the antics of Red-headed Woodpeckers, Baltimore Orioles (The bird, not the baseball team.), Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, and others.

We had a wonderful time deciding where to hang her artwork, and display her glass and ceramic sculptures and plants. All too soon, it was time to head for home.
