Saying goodbye to Medium to migrate our blog to our own domain name

When you are building your own business, you have to understand deeply the job of your customers. Even if you worked in that field in the past, you need to re-learn what you already know, you need to see things from different perspectives. To achieve this, you have to gather information from the web and meet a lot of people.

That’s when we realized that many people were asking the same questions. They faced the same challenges as us. And obviously we had all the same reflex, looking for information on Google. Most of the time we didn’t find answers to simple questions. So, we decided to write and publish what we knew and what we learned while progressing on our project. We did that in order to help, as much as we can the animation sector.

When information is easily accessible newcomers feel less scared and can start faster. For our experienced peers, they can learn areas that they didn’t have time to explore by themselves. It can bring them new ideas and overall benefit to everyone involved in an animation production.

To put our articles and thoughts on the web, we chosed Medium because the platform is known for being the most popular for posting blog posts. Also, we were looking for something with a high level of design and it matched perfectly with our expectations. Now we have been using it for 3 years but as we evolved so does our goals.

At some point, you want to have your blog at home. With Medium we are not able to make live our blog under our own domain and we cannot brand the theme as much as we would like. Additionnaly, we want to improve the impact of our articles on our SEO. It works better with the cg-wire.com domain.

To have our own place, we chosed the Ghost platform. It is well-known in the world of open source software. They started with a kickstarter and then they kept being famous by telling how their company was growing and by being transparent about their finances, just being honest with their audience. It fits in more to our values at CGWire. In addition, the quality of the software and the design are very good so it was quite natural to migrate on it.

So from now on, our blog posts will be published https://blog.cg-wire.com ! We hope that you will enjoy this new place for our articles. Feel free to send us your feedback about it!

We dedicated this blog to CG Production Management and CG Pipeline. We propose too a Discord channel where you can discuss your problems/solutions and learn from others. We are already 200+ to share tips and ideas. Join us, TDs and Production Managers from all over the world will be super happy to welcome you!
