Lorena

Laurel @Seema

I read about Lorena, a hurricane in the Pacific expected to impact Arizona.

I have heard the name Lorena before. It sounded Spanish, which I am learning, so I decided to look into its meaning.

It means “laurel.” A laurel wreath is a symbol of honor and victory.

The name was also popularized in the United States by the 19th-century song “Lorena.”

Lorena is a variant of names like Lauren and Laura.

My neighborhood has many species of laurel shrubs. The leaves are fragrant, which I crush for aromatherapy. The blossoms feed the bees, and birds feed on the fruits.

I am sure glad to know the meaning of Lorena. When a hurricane comes to cause problems, I better enrich my vocabulary. One by one, gleaned through different ways, I boast of thousand of Spanish words.
