Peace Is On Everyone’s Mind

United States President Herbert Hoover, said, and I quote, “Older Men Declare War, But It Is The Youth, That Must Fight And Die.”

“It is youth that must inherit the tribulation, the sorrow, and the triumphs that are the aftermath of war.”

He delivered this exact same sentiment during a speech at the Rupublican National Convention in June of 1944.

Other famous Americans have expressed this same sentiment.

1. Franklin D Roosevelt- “War is young men dying and old men talking.”
2. Mary Roberts Rineheart — “Old men make wars that young men may die.”

Hamburger Hill

Over the course of ten days, in May 1969, an infantry squad let by Lt. Frantz, and composed of both seasoned troops and new recruits attmept to take a hill during the Vietnam War.

In between attacks, the squad members deal with the other psychological stresses of the war, including the effect on morale of the antiwar movement back home and flashes of racial hostility between white and African-American soldiers.

A news reporter asked a young soldier, who was fighting on the front lines of Hamburger Hill, what he would advise mothers to tell their children, fifty years from now. He said, “Don’t send your sons to finish what politicians start.”

I Take This Personally

My murdered son Richard L Jacobs Jr, fought on the front lines of Desert Storm in a heavy artillery unit. He started the ground war, eight days after his twentieth birthday.

He came home unharmed physically, but with a severe case of PTSD. He was never the same. He was brutally murdered, on March 27, 2015. Approximately 5 weeks past his forty-fourth birthday.

I Find It Hard To Read

I find it hard to read about the United States involvement in the Iranian crises. I am not political and I do not take either side.

However, I do take the side of the young men and women out there putting their lives on the line, to defend our country, and defend our freedoms which we many times take for granted.

I could not find a peace lily, but I found a pretty lily, that I will dedicate to all the young men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces, and all the people who are the victims of war in their country.

What I mean by anyone effected by war, I mean the families, the children, and the soldiers alike.

It must be horrible to be a child or a young person, and have bombs going off around you.

I remember in Hawthorne New Jersey as a pre-school child, having heard the deafening whistle, called an air raid siren, and having to go in the house.

I sat on my Mother’s cedar chest, and was oblivious of what the siren really meant. They were part of the National Civil Defense Programs designed to warn civilians of impending nuclear attacks or enemy bomber raids during the cold war. Thankfully, they were only practice sirens.

I wonder if they will have the same drills in the future, and what the people in the Middle East feel like.

This Is Dedicated To These Young People Also, and Anyone Who Is A Victim Of War

My son Richard wrote home to me, “Whether the tears are American or Iraqi, they all look the same.”
