The Best Coffee Grinder, Maker, and Method for Travel

Brewing a great cup of coffee is not anew concept.

For many of us, a morning cup of joe is a necessary ritual.

Here are a few of our favorite portable coffee tools for the road.

Our absolutefavorite tool is the Aeropress, which costs about $30.

This small and easily packable wondercreates a great cup of black nectar.

True minimalists may scoff atthe idea of bringing a coffee grinder on the road, but it’s up to you.

We believe thatcoffee tastes best when the beans are ground right before using the Aeropress.

Ourfavorite travel coffee grinders are the Rhinowares hand grinder and thePorlex Mini.

This Rhinowares hand grinder is small and packable and grinds rightinto your Aeropress.

Traveling with beans takes up space, but it could be lessstressful than buying them on the road if you’re not sure how easy it will beto find quality beans.

If you’re traveling to a country that’s famous for goodcoffee, try the local fare, just make sure to plan ahead.

There are lots ofways to brew coffee in an Aeropress.

The upside down method (or the inversionmethod) is our favorite.

Pull the plunger down and turn the Aeropress upside down on the counter.

Boil water and wait for it to cool down a little.

Grind the coffee.

Pour the coffee into the Aeropreepress and add a small amount of the hotwater, allowing the coffee to bloom.

The smell is beautiful.

Allow this to settle for about a minute,then add water almost the top of the cylinder.

Place the metal filter into theplastic, or if you use the paper filter, make it wet before placing it over thetop.

Lock the plastic ringlets in place and put the Aeropress over your cup.

Pressdown with steady pressure.

Now enjoy! Well there you have it: a travel gameplan for even the most discerning of java junkies.
