The Voice of Tomorrow: Dimitrina Germanova’s Journey on Stage

Twenty-year-old Dimitrina Germanova, a sophomore at American University in Bulgaria, has achieved a lot, and her career as a professional stage performer is just starting. A second place in “The Voice of Bulgaria” in 2023 started with ballet lessons when she was 4 years old.

“So what I do is basically singing, acting and dancing on stage” she said.

Dimitrina was pretty young when she first started performing. She has practiced dancing lessons during kindergarten, then piano lessons when she was about 1st grade. Then she committed her time to singing in a choir, but understood that she wanted to develop her solo singing abilities and started taking pop and rock singing lessons with a vocal coach.

“A few years later, I came to the decision that the most rational thing I could do is to combine all of my hobbies as dancing, singing and acting into one, and this is where musical theater came into the picture.” she said.

Dimitrina says that when she found her passion towards musical theater, she has been “giving all her heart and soul” to this type of stage performing arts.

She had more than 10 musical titles behind her back after signing her first professional contract for the State Opera in Varna. The performer is also part of the Broadway Performance Club in AUBG, where she is part of the acting team and this year she took the responsibility of being a music director for the show “Crybaby”. “It brought me so much joy and experience”, she recalled.

Recently, Dimitrina started dubbing for movies like Encanto, The Little Mermaid, Wicked, Snow White. “It is so much different from what stage performing is. It is a whole new world of creativity, almost as if you are impersonating that particular character”, she added.

Germanova has taken part in many music competitions and contests, but one of the most memorable performances for her was during the time she was in “The Voice of Bulgaria” in 2023. “I got to meet so many talented artists, so many professionals from the field”, she said.

Dimi sang so many of her favorite songs “live on the television”. She is grateful because since her second place in the show, she has many open doors in front of her.

“I will soon drop my debut song”, she announced. She also added that there is an amazing video to the song and she thinks that the end result will be satisfying, at least for her.

Her parents are never scared to share their opinion, whether it is good or bad, about what she has done on the stage and of course outside in her personal life. “Of course, my parents are my biggest critics.” she recalled.

She definitely makes everything perfect in front of the crowd but she says there are “specific incidents” as broken zippers of dresses right before performances or turned off microphones during a musical performance, but “that is what makes each performance unique in its own way”.

Dimitrina is sure that the biggest chunk of a performer is the people behind them.

“I am proud to say that my team, my friends, my family, everybody who is having this battle with me is there for me every time”, she said.
