The Shocking Reason You’re Accidentally Blocking Everything You Want.

The Shocking Reason You’re Accidentally Blocking Everything You Want.
The Day I Stopped Wanting Everything — And Finally Got It

What if everything you’ve been taught about getting what you want is not just wrong — but is actually working against you?
There’s a reason some people seem to attract success like a magnet while others grind themselves into the ground and get nowhere. It’s not luck. It’s not talent. It’s not even hard work.
It’s a single invisible mistake — one most people make every single day without even knowing it.
And the moment you see it, you can’t unsee it.

There’s a guy I know who spent three years doing everything right.
Vision board on the wall. Affirmations every morning. Meditation. Journaling. The whole ritual.
And after three years of doing everything the books told him to do — he was still broke, still stuck, still staring at the same four walls wondering why the universe seemed to be ignoring him.
Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing nobody tells you about manifesting. It’s not about the technique. It’s not about how many times you visualize, or how detailed your vision board is, or whether you meditate for ten minutes or forty.
It’s about one thing. And most people get it completely backwards.
The Signal You Don’t Know You’re Sending
Imagine you’re a radio tower.
Every thought, every feeling, every quiet whisper of emotion you carry around — that’s your broadcast signal. And the universe? It’s just a very obedient receiver. It picks up whatever you’re transmitting and sends back more of the same.
Here’s where it gets uncomfortable.
When most people think about what they want — the money, the house, the freedom — they feel the wanting. The aching, desperate, please-let-this-happen wanting. And that feeling, that very specific emotional frequency, is what they’re broadcasting.
Not abundance. Not success.
Wanting.
And so the universe, being the faithful mirror that it is, keeps delivering exactly that.
More wanting.
The Sheet Over the Window
Picture a young guy in a tiny one-bedroom apartment.
Nine hundred square feet. A bedsheet nailed over the window because he couldn’t afford curtains. Broke in the way that makes your stomach tight when you check your bank balance.
Every night, he’d sit in that apartment and picture mansions. Not in a desperate, please-God-let-me-have-this kind of way. He’d picture them the way you remember a place you’ve already been. Comfortable. Familiar. Real.
And here’s the strange part.
He felt exactly the same sitting in that tiny apartment as he imagined he’d feel living in those mansions. No difference. No gap. No sense of I’ll be happy when.
He was already there — in his bones, in his gut, in the quiet certainty of how he carried himself.
Years later, the mansions arrived. Multiple properties. Real ones, worth millions.
And his internal state? Identical to the guy with the bedsheet curtain.
That’s not a coincidence. That’s the whole secret.
The Test That Changes Everything
Here’s the simplest way to know if you’re stuck in the trap.
Ask yourself honestly: Do I believe I’ll feel different once I have what I want?
If the answer is yes — even a little bit yes — you’re broadcasting lack. You’re telling the universe, in the clearest possible signal, that you don’t have it yet. That you’re waiting. That happiness is somewhere out there, just beyond your current reach.
And the universe will make sure it stays exactly there.
Just beyond reach.
A Wet Sleeping Bag and the Secret of Happiness
There’s a story about a boy scout camping trip that cuts right to the heart of this.
Middle of the night. Rain hammering the tent. Water seeping through the groundsheet, soaking into the sleeping bag. Cold, muddy, shivering — the kind of miserable that should ruin everything.
And yet.
The kid crawls out of his soaking tent, wakes up his friend, and they spend the rest of the night laughing in the rain, having the time of their lives.
Objectively terrible conditions. Genuinely wonderful experience.
That gap — between circumstances and feeling — is where everything changes.
Because here’s what most people have backwards: they’re waiting for their conditions to improve before they allow themselves to feel good. But the people who actually change their conditions? They figure out how to feel good first, while the conditions are still terrible.
It sounds almost too simple. But it’s the hardest thing most people will ever practice.
Care, But Not That Much
Decades ago, a negotiation expert named Herb Cohen walked into a seminar in Chicago, lit a cigar, and said something that stopped the room cold.
“The secret of negotiation — and the secret of life — is you have to care, but not that much.”
Write that down somewhere you’ll see it.
It doesn’t mean stop wanting things. It doesn’t mean pretend you don’t have goals or dreams or ambitions. It means stop needing the outcome in order to feel okay right now.
There’s a version of wanting something that’s light and energised and open. And there’s a version that’s white-knuckled and desperate and suffocating.
One of them attracts. One of them repels.
The practice — and it is a practice, not a switch you flip once — is learning to hold your goals loosely. To work toward them with full commitment, and then release the outcome completely. To genuinely mean it when you say: it’s okay if this takes time. I feel good right now regardless.
So Where Do You Actually Start?
Not with a new technique. Not with a better vision board.
You start with one honest question, asked every morning:
Am I feeling good because of my circumstances, or in spite of them?
If it’s the former — if your mood is entirely dependent on what’s happening around you — that’s the work. That’s where the real change begins.
Not in the strategies. Not in the methods. Those come later, and when the internal state is right, they work beautifully.
But first, the signal has to change.
Feel it now. Not when the money arrives. Not when the relationship shows up. Not when the conditions finally improve.
Now.
That’s the missing key. It always was.
The techniques, the strategies, the step-by-step methods — they all work. But only once you stop needing them to.
