With kicker Joshua Karty playing a significant role in both, the Rams built a significant lead against the Eagles before blowing it.

After four consecutive field goals, including one from 51 yards out, Joshua Karty went from being a natural for the Rams to struggling to get his kicks off the ground.

Karty had two consecutive attempts stopped by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The first came on the game’s last play with the Rams down one point, while the second set up Philly’s drive for the game-winning score late in the fourth quarter. Jordan Davis sealed Los Angeles’ 33–26 defeat by knocking Karty’s game-winning pass to the ground, catching the ball, and returning it 61 yards for a score.

It is not entirely Karty’s fault that the Rams blew a 19-point lead in the third quarter. However, his method on the last two kicks was obviously flawed.

The Eagles saw certain tells, such a pitcher tilting his pitches.

Davis remarked, “We knew his angle and his launch point, especially off his last kick, from the way we discussed it on the sideline.” “I saw the ball on the ground at the right moment after we just hit the gap and raised our hands at the right moment.”

Karty went two for two in last week’s victory against Tennessee and didn’t try a field goal in the season opener. During his two years with the Rams, he started 31 of 36 games overall.

Both Stafford and McVay bemoaned other missed opportunities, including not converting on third down, that resulted in another Eagles defeat.

Last season, Philadelphia defeated the Rams twice, including once at Lincoln Financial Field during the NFC playoffs’ divisional round.

Stafford’s passing total was 196 yards and two touchdowns. Stafford connected Kyren Williams for a 10-yard touchdown to make it 26–7 after Hurts was strip-sacked by Jared Verse in the third quarter. Karty helped the Rams establish a 19–7 lead at the half with field goals of 51, 28, 33, and 46 yards.

Stafford remarked, “I mean, we’ve all been in enough NFL games that the scoreboard doesn’t really matter until the end of the game.” “At the end of the game, we had our chance, but it didn’t work out.”

On the Rams’ first possession, Stafford threw an interception. Stafford’s pass was intercepted by Zack Baun, which resulted in an Eagles touchdown.

Stafford stated, “You don’t want to start the game with the turnover like I did.” “I would really like to get back some physical throws early in the game and on third down so I can definitely improve.”

The Rams failed to convert their lone fourth-down attempt and were 3 of 10 on third down.

The Rams lost an early yardstick on a schedule packed of lengthy road trips for Los Angeles and failed to open 3–0 for the first time since 2021.
