The BTown Experiment: Inside an Autonomous On-Chain Pixel Economy

For too long, the web3 landscape has been dominated by static assets — JPEGs that sit idly in wallets, gathering digital dust. BTownShaders, inspired by Normies, shatters this mold in style.

We didn’t just build a collection of profile pictures; we built a social and economic experiment. It is a fully autonomous, gamified, and 100% on-chain pixel canvas.

Instead of simply holding an asset, collectors operate a living terminal. You are given a canvas, a set of tools, and a dynamic economy fueled by time and sacrifice. You don’t just own a Shader — you build it, mutate it, and upgrade it.

Here is the ultimate blueprint of how the BTownShaders experiment functions, the math driving its economy, and how you can manipulate the system to create the ultimate on-chain avatar.

The Open Canvas & The Color Matrix

At the core of every BTownShader is an open 16x16 pixel grid. This is your blank slate. As an owner, you have complete authority to overwrite any of the 256 pixels on this grid, crafting anything from subtle aesthetic upgrades to entirely new pixel art masterpieces.

However, you operate under two strict physical laws of the BTown ecosystem:

  • Editing requires energy: Modifying a single pixel costs exactly 1 Action Point (AP).
  • Editing requires ink: You can only paint using Color Palettes that your specific NFT has unlocked.

When a Shader is born, it doesn’t have access to the entire spectrum of colors. Every NFT comes pre-loaded with two palettes:

  1. The Base Palette: Essential whites, grays, and blacks.
  2. A Unique Trait Palette: Based strictly on the NFT’s generated body type (e.g., “Earth”, “Mist”, or “Teal”).

Note: There is one rare genetic anomaly — a specific body type that unlocks 4 palettes by default (Base, Mist, Gold, and Ignite).

If your Shader was born with the “Moss” palette, but you want to paint a blazing crown using the “Ignite” palette, you have a problem. To get more colors, you have to engage with the ecosystem’s most ruthless mechanic: Fusion.

Not to forget there is one rare body type which has 4 palettes unlocked by default. Base Palette, Mist, Gold and Ignite.

Here is the full list of palettes a Shader can aim to collect:

The Engine: Action Points (AP)

Action Points (AP) are the lifeblood of the experiment. They are the strictly capped, non-transferable currency required to modify your canvas. If you have 0 AP, you are playing a waiting game.

To keep the ecosystem moving, there are exactly two ways to generate AP: Passive Mining and Active Fusion. Both methods are heavily influenced by your NFT’s most important hidden trait: the AP Multiplier. While most Shaders have a standard 1x multiplier, a rare subset possesses 2x or even 3x multipliers.

Method 1: The Passive Mining Engine (Time = Energy) Your Shader acts as a passive miner, slowly accumulating AP over time without you needing to do anything but wait. The baseline speed of the network allows an NFT to mature 1 base AP every 6 days. You can execute a claim transaction to pull these points into your usable wallet, up to a hard cap of 255 AP.

Here is the exact formula the smart contract uses to calculate your claim:

The Multiplier in Action:

Let’s say you wait 18 days before claiming.

  • Standard Shader (1x): Generates 3 base AP. You claim 3 AP.
  • Rare Shader (3x): Generates 3 base AP, but the internal multiplier ignites. You claim 9 AP.

Higher multiplier NFTs inherently command the canvas, allowing their owners to paint and mutate at radically faster speeds.

Method 2: The Fusion Protocol (Sacrifice = Power)

Waiting 6 days for a drop of AP isn’t always viable, especially when you need new color palettes. This brings us to the Fusion Protocol — a deflationary burning mechanism that permanently removes NFTs from the total supply in exchange for massive upgrades.

You can select a “Source” NFT to sacrifice, feeding it to your “Target” NFT. When you do this, two massive events occur on-chain:

  1. Palette Inheritance: The Target NFT permanently absorbs every single color palette the burnt NFT possessed. This is how you build a “god-tier” canvas with access to all 15 palettes.
  2. Energy Siphon: The Target NFT violently rips the energy out of the burnt token, gaining a massive AP yield.

The target receives a flat baseline of 5 AP, plus a 50% bonus of all the effort (stored AP + historical canvas edits) the burned NFT had accumulated. Finally, the Target’s AP Multiplier scales that bonus.

The contract calculates the yield perfectly:

The Multiplier in Action:

Imagine you buy a cheap Shader off the floor to use as fuel. This “Source” NFT has accumulated 20 AP. The base bonus is 50% of 20, which is 10.

  • Fusing into a 1x Multiplier Target: Yield = 5 + (10 x 1) = 15 AP
  • Fusing into a 2x Multiplier Target: Yield = 5 + (10 x 2) = 25 AP

A Player-Driven Economy

BTownShaders forces a brilliant game-theory dilemma. Do you hold onto your tokens and slowly accumulate art? Or do you aggressively burn the floor supply to amass an arsenal of color palettes and supercharge a rare 3x Multiplier token to dominate the canvas?

Every pixel painted is a recorded transaction. Every color unlocked is the result of a destroyed asset. In BTown, art isn’t just generated — it is earned, engineered, and executed.

Going live soon. Welcome to the terminal.
