As writers, we often ponder the meaning of dreams. Not just the ones that come to us in the dead of night, but the ones we think of as children and young adults, imagining how our lives will be. Dreams linger well into adulthood. They are the yardstick by which we measure our happiness.

In 1922, Langston Hughes put this feeling into words, stating, “Hold fast to your dreams / For if dreams die / Life is a broken-winged bird / That cannot fly.”

We reason that so long as we have goal posts, we will be fine. We know that not all dreams can come true. Sometimes, life gets in the way, whether it’s for a lack of wealth or responsibilities at home.

But what would happen if we placed more value on our dreams? What if we lived our lives in service to a greater joy — the kind which nourishes the soul?

This month, we asked our writers to reflect on their dreams, whether old or new, and how they have impacted their lives. Did your dream come true? Are you still seeking to fulfill it? What would you do once you had it?

As always, our amazing community of writers came forth in droves to tell their story. From lamentations of growing up too quickly, to the ways our actions affect others, and stepping out of your comfort zone to do something amazing, our writers shared compelling testaments of life.
