Sean “Diddy” Combs Asks Court to Let Him Serve His Sentence at Fort Dix, Citing Drug-Treatment Benefits

NEW YORK — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has formally petitioned a federal judge to allow him to serve his 50-month sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, arguing that the facility’s drug treatment and rehabilitation programs will best support his recovery and promote family access.

Combs was sentenced on October 3 to four years and two months in prison following convictions on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. While acquitted of more serious charges including racketeering and sex trafficking, the sentence carries significant consequences.

In a filing to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs’ attorneys urged that the court “strongly recommend” placement at Fort Dix, so he may participate in the Bureau of Prisons’ Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and other educational or occupational initiatives. They emphasized that such positioning would further his rehabilitation efforts and enable better family visitation.

Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison located on the grounds of the joint military base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, is among the institutions offering RDAP, which is the prison system’s most intensive program for treating drug abuse. The facility, about 64 miles southwest of New York City, is also seen as logistically favorable for visitation given Combs’ ties to the region.

However, the final decision rests with the Bureau of Prisons, and Judge Subramanian has not yet issued a determination in response to the request. Judges often provide recommendations regarding inmate placement, but the Bureau retains ultimate authority based on security needs, sentencing factors, and inmate eligibility.

Combs has already been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024, and that period will be credited toward his sentence. His legal team has also underscored his steps toward self-improvement in custody, asserting that he has undertaken rehabilitation efforts and spiritual reflection.

Critics, however, note that Fort Dix has in past years been criticized for staffing shortages, contraband issues, and safety concerns. Moreover, eligibility for RDAP and similar programs is not guaranteed — factors such as prison history, conduct, and the nature of the offense could affect entry.

The judge’s ruling on the placement request is expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Combs has indicated he plans to appeal portions of his conviction, asserting that aspects of the court’s decision overreached.
