The RANY Report: NFL Week 5

Week 5 was full of storylines — the former Panther QB duel, no more undefeated teams, two winless teams getting on the board (sorry Jets…), and of course Indiana Jones and his Colts dominating another game. Let’s dive into the best teams and players through Week 5. Here’s the full recap!

Best Team in the NFL: Indianapolis Colts (NEW)

After letting the Seahawks take the top spot last week, the Colts are back on top this week! The Seahawks took an L in what was highlighted as the RANY Game of the Week heading into Week 5 and boy did it live up to it. They drop a little bit in the Power Rating metric and the Colts jump and reclaim #1 after a dominating performance against the Raiders. The Colts have the most productive QB in the league and a Top 10 defense to go along with it.

• Best Performance: Houston Texans +1.65 Power Rating and +12 spots
• Worst Performance: Las Vegas Raiders -1.66 Power Rating and -6 spots
• Worst Team in the NFL: Tennessee Titans (2 weeks)
• Best Defense in the NFL: Atlanta Falcons
• Worst Defense in the NFL: Baltimore Ravens

RANY MVP: Daniel Jones (5 weeks)

Indiana Jones stays on top! Can he go wire-to-wire? It is still a small margin between him and Josh Allen, but he created a little more space this week with an impressive performance. The Lamar injury helps his case as well, but Sam Darnold has jumped up into the top tier and boasts better efficiency numbers than Jones. A lot of quality QB play in recent weeks!

RANY OPOY: Amon-Ra St. Brown (2 weeks)

Amon-Ra holds down the top spot for another week, but here comes the rookie! Emeka Egbuka has taken the NFL by storm as Baker’s favorite new target. The former Buckeye is joined by JSN and Garrett Wilson as part of the “Zone 6” Ohio State WR crew in the Top 20. Egbuka is also joined by everyone’s favorite RB “Bill” Croskey-Merritt, Tyler Warren, Bhayshul Tuten, and Woody Marks as rookies in the Top 35.

• Most Valuable Rusher: Jonathon Taylor
• Least Value Skill Player: Chase Brown

• Top 35:

Most Valuable QB Contract: Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones stays at the top of this list as well, with his valuation holding pretty steady week-over-week. However, the gap continues to close because of players on smaller 2025 contracts performing well! Drake Maye stays at #2 and closes the gap slightly. We see a couple backups behind him — Carson Wentz and Mac Jones — playing better than their bottom 5 APY. And C.J. Stroud is starting to see the bounce back we all hoped to see and is now performing as an above average starting QB, which is value compared to his rookie contract $9M APY.

• Most Value Backup Contract: Carson Wentz (+25.3M)
• Least Valuable Contract: Trevor Lawrence (-$34.5M)

Looking ahead to Week 6, our RANY Game of the Week: Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5) with a RANY Score of +3.82. Vegas has the Chiefs at 2.5-point favorites, but RANY likes the Lions as a 2-point favorites and is picking them as a moneyline dog! Last week RANY nailed the game of the week, as it had the Bucs/Seahawks game as a true pick ’em and the Bucs to cover. It came down to a last second field goal with the Bucs coming out on top!
