Electric Scooters

How safe are our childrens toys these days? Anyone ever stop to think how advanced things are now. Compared to when we were kids? I am a mother of 6. And it took a life changing accident, for me to ponder this very question. My face is scared for life. And my kids were traumatized as well.

To begin my story, keep in mind that im on a childs toy. Its made for teens. The weight limit on the scooter was like 160 lbs. I'm 5"2 110 lbs. I'm very petite. My boys easily tower over me.

Its was a beautiful july morning. Me and my daughter, (16 @ the time) pulled out the scooter to ride. My mother was on her way over to bring my son home. I was riding like i always do. And like I had done so many times before. I had walked through this area. Rode bikes and other scooters. So there was no gaurd up or anything. Next thing I know, Im jumping up off the concrete, and feeling something in my mouth. I open my hand and spit. There was all my teeth. And lots of blood. At the time all i could think is to get home to call 911. Once i got to the hospital, the drs realized I would be needing facial reconstructive surgry. This was terrifiying.

So the next day, I have my surgrys. Amd that evening get released to go home. Everything happend so fast. When I got home, i couldnt understand for the life of me what had happend. So I asked my daughter to walk with me to where the accident happend. Which was 2 buildings down from mine. When we got there, we was both surprised. There was a hole about 2 foot deep. That the grass had grown over. So when my scooter tire hit this hole. It made the scooter completely bottom out. Which made me face plant the handle bars. I had stitches down half my face. And across my nose. Reconstructive nose surgery. Skin graphs. And that lil bone in your forehead. The one that if you break it you die. Was fractured. So that's how close I really came to killing myself on my kid's electric scooter.
