The Advantage of Dynamic Entitlements

With our focus on CustomerCentric Licensing, Nalpeiron’s Dynamic Entitlements makes the licensing Customer Experience (CX) dramatically easier.

The end-user simply activates the software or device once using the license code assigned to them, and from then on any changes or updates made to their entitlements in the Nalpeiron cloud (either through the web-based UI or through the easy to integrate web services) will automatically propagate to the end-user’s machine.

Let’s take a look at the high-level architecture:

When an end-user enters the assigned license code (“LC-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXX”), the application makes the appropriate calls to the Nalpeiron licensing library (“NSL LIB”) to send the request, along with the unique calculated fingerprint for that device, to the Nalpeiron cloud. The licensing service then looks up that customer’s entitlements, binds them to the unique fingerprint and stores those secure rights into a secure local cache managed locally on the device. Since the rights are anchored (using strong cryptography) to the specific device licensed, they can’t be moved to some other machine.

In addition, there is a timer associated with that secure local cache (the “license check interval”) that defines the amount of time those rights can be referenced locally without forcing a refresh/update from the authoritative set of rights held in the cloud.

With this elegant approach, you can securely upgrade AND downgrade rights over time, all without the end-user needing to do anything other than the initial activation.
