My Thoughts on the Krew Gacha Community.

ItzMia is a Muslim-Canadian YouTuber who makes simple, fun, and entertaining videos revolving around the five-membered chaotic YouTube creator squad called the Krew using a designer game named Gacha Club. She had her channel gone into a bewildering success, reaching over 49 thousand subscribers by the time of writing this blog post. But what her community — and her viewers — didn't know is that she went into a blatant, repetitive case of community-defined self-proclaimed "inspiration," which means in actual English, it's called copying without changing the content into another original form that differs from that content.

She copied another creator's (in this case, we'll call the creator a Krewtuber or a Gachatuber instead since everyone refers to it as it) original character or design twice without knowing that she was just heavily "inspired" by their creations. You know what happens next. The drama broke out, and everyone was calling her out for their indiscipline actions. Soon she figured it out and apologised to the public, to the point that she would never do that blatant action again to every community she visited or partook in.

But in reality, that wasn’t that easy. Right now, that road leads the community at large on the road to hell.

There are some people who listen, and those who don’t.

I said it in a response video about how cases of people mistaking "inspiration" for "copying" broke out, and YouTube community posts were going like wildfire about why the community did it in the first place. They're so freaking pissed about it that they will quit the community and take better jobs (or activities) to fulfill their valuable time. This community, in one way or another, has gone either too soft or either too childish in any way. And possibly, it's not going to recover soon.

The take from this is that I’m pissed. I’m so pissed off over why this community never took responsibility; as writer Mark Manson said (in his book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k), you must, to gain long-term happiness. How did they (the community) don’t care about it? It’s just simple. You own up to it, you apologize, you amend things. Just why? WHY?

People took this thing called inspiration and copyright not seriously. They believe all they create is just "dying" to generate virality about their creations, a.k.a clout chasing. Chasing their dream about going viral and being known in a community as a reality, while it's only a delusional thought, it's "their own psychological Atlantis," as Mark Manson said. It's greatness and "success" as a way to trick themselves into the pit of doom, an illusion of a destination that "we obligate ourselves to pursue."

Ezra has a point. The wisest of the community (including me, with thousands of subscribers, famous, unproblematic, and experienced) all have a point we all MUST OBLIGE to believe in: we as a community have a fatal flaw. A flaw that, if not fixed in any way, will make or break the community. It is the lack of common sense and empathy for each other. It is the hundreds and thousands of videos copying OCs, music, ideas, and original content without crediting while licking massive chops of ad revenue, views, and dishonourable appreciation. These blatant actions will break the community one way or another. And if you don't care whilst reading this thing right now, you should be worried. Like, really worried.

We started as a society with piracy. Music piracy that gone with the 90s days of Napster and my days watching pirated DVDs of movies from brick-and-mortar stores or MP4 movie files from the Internet, just because we can't afford to rent or buy legit ones. And those hurt the people who made those movies and music so bad. In fact, the US lost $29 billion in online TV and film piracy every year. That's not counting all the streams lost on pirated music and the creators' hearts broken while some of you are copying or inspired by the Krewtubers' designs, even about sections and video metadata like their titles, descriptions, and tags. You wouldn't even steal a car if you thought that way!

Being Creative 101

TLDR; our hearts are broken due to copyright laws being broken. We, as the Krew & Gacha creator community at large, really need your support. Not financially, but mentally. I'm sick of writing another response video and gaining a couple of hundred views from you guys, so I have to do this the hard way to make you understand and persuade you to oblige to the rules. We all hate quitting. We all hate creators quit this damn platform. And we also hate Karrot leaving this community after what the community has done to them, so oblige. That is the only way.

The point of making videos and content is to be creative; that's what this platform and the Internet were built for. Sharing creative, personal, and fun thoughts and creations with the world, and having a sense of your style. Copying does not make any benefits, it doesn't fall under fair use (which is a legal term used to define content that uses another creator's content without permission for education, research, commentary and the like), and you could get copyright strikes for that. If you need to copy others' content, do it in the form of inspiration. Then what is inspiration, anyway?

The Basic Principles of Copyright

Inspiration is like copying but adding personal touches of your style and what comes to mind when thinking about the original content. You must "fall in love" with the content to get inspired. I mean, it's thinking that "this content is great; I need to add some of my stuff in this" so that it's different or not matching the original creator's content. It's copying, but it's a half-DIY, but you still need to credit the original creator where you're inspired, not ignore it and call it a day. That's everyone's fault people are getting trapped in right now!

The basic principle of copyright is learning not to be selfish and greedy about what you make. Let's say your classmate is making a Barbie-inspired doll; you shouldn't be making a Barbie-inspired doll and call it yours. It's unfair, and you're out of your mind if you think that way. Imagine someone gets inspired by a creator, but the other person gets "heavily inspired" by that person's content and instead copies the entire thing. It's that Feedback Loop from Hell Mark was talking about! Oh, come on, I need a goddamn chill pill from all of this!

And when you, the creator, respond to the person who just copied your content, there is no need to rush; research first. Find out if that person copied your content and replicated your post instead of bashing, harassing, and confronting that person directly like a thousand overtimes in Valorant, where not the attackers nor defenders end the match and have a conclusion. It won't do anything meaningful to them; on the contrary, you would do lots of damage to them instead of allowing them to repent or own up to their mistakes. This isn't the universe where you would harass people without a good reason for a living! Instead, try to use the YouTube copyright match tool feature if you're in the partner program and schedule the strike instead of copyright strike them immediately—just a tip.

The Conclusion

In conclusion, Funneh was right about this community and society today. Originality is rare nowadays. And yes, it does. People misuse and don't care about the copyright law as a whole. They didn't respect others' right to copyright and ran away, generating massive amounts of extreme popularity and filling their bank accounts with dirty money. So many thumbnail copiers, OC copiers, and people impersonate someone until the point that I cannot comprehend what's going on with this society as a whole.

Do you want to fix everything wrong about this community? Just treat others the way you want to be treated. Respect people if you want to be respected enough. That's the karma effect for you. Don't be childish; reflect on yourself and amend your actions before it's too late. Learn to prioritise good virtues, laws, and norms over your wants and delusional thoughts.
