Part 2: Why Ultherapy Should Never Be Done Carelessly

Common Misconceptions About Lifting

Is stronger always better? More painful? More shots?

There is a common misconception surrounding lifting treatments. That stronger energy leads to better results, that more pain means more effectiveness, and that a higher number of shots guarantees a better outcome.

This is something I hear very often in clinical practice. I understand where it comes from — anxiety about results.

However, Ultherapy is already a procedure that condenses high-intensity energy into precise focal points, creating thermal coagulation zones. These zones cause irreversible changes in human tissue.

If the intensity is pushed unnecessarily high, the coagulation zones may become larger. But regeneration must occur in healthy surrounding tissue, so expanding the damage zone without reason often leads to more harm than benefit.

Pain Is Not a Measure of Effectiveness

Pain is an extremely subjective sensation. With the same Ultherapy treatment, some patients feel almost nothing, some experience tolerable discomfort, and others feel significant pain.

When energy hits the periosteum, there is little benefit — only increased pain. If nerves are hit, both pain and the risk of side effects rise.

A good treatment is not a painful one, but one that delivers energy accurately to the correct layer.

The Problem With Obsessing Over Shot Counts

Ultherapy is a fractional, dot-based treatment that alternates between intact tissue and micro-thermal injury zones. However, when shot density becomes excessive, the degree of tissue damage can outweigh the actual benefit.

In lifting, what truly matters is not the number of shots, but the balance between depth, location, and energy.

Ultherapy Is Not a Treatment to Repeat in Isolation

Ultherapy is a powerful procedure that addresses structural aging of the face. But when repeated too frequently, collagen breakdown can surpass regeneration, potentially weakening the facial support structure.

For this reason, I do not view Ultherapy as a treatment to be performed often. Instead, I use it as a reference point — a way to reset collapsed structural foundations.

When combined thoughtfully with biostimulators, skin boosters, and radiofrequency treatments that support the wound-healing response, Ultherapy’s effects become more stable and longer-lasting.

This integrated approach allows us to address not only structural aging, but also the biological aging of the skin itself.

From Cosmetic Lifting to Well-Aging

Many of these misconceptions stem from a deeper fear — the belief that lifting must be repeated endlessly to maintain aesthetic results.

I sometimes compare aging to the punishment of Sisyphus. There is no final destination, and as time passes, our bodies inevitably change.

For this reason, I hope lifting can be seen not merely as a cosmetic procedure, but as a moment to restore self-confidence, a form of care and reward, and even a quiet pause.

This is how we approach Ultherapy at ELBLANC clinic, and why we strive to connect lifting with the broader experience of wellness and well-aging.

The Difference the Body Recognizes First

Some people ask why prices differ even when the equipment appears the same. Others question whether the phrase “it depends on the practitioner’s hands” is nothing more than marketing.

I sometimes compare procedures to fine dining.

Even if you watch every step of a fine-dining meal being prepared, it is difficult to imagine the taste before actually eating it. Considering the price and effort, you assume it will be good — but sight alone cannot confirm it. Only experience does.

Procedures are no different. Even with the same device, results vary greatly depending on who performs the treatment, their understanding, and the judgment behind how energy should be applied.

Ultherapy Prime is no exception. Rather than simply offering stronger lifting capacity compared to the previous models, it is better understood as a device upgraded to amplify the practitioner’s judgment and design, allowing those decisions to be executed with more precision.

This difference is felt before it is explained. Patients often realize it instinctively: Ah — this really does depend on who performs it.

In the end, it is something the body remembers first.
