The Obsessed Users Within ‘Snark Reddits’

On June 29, 2025, Mikayla Raines, a YouTuber known for her animal rescue activism, committed suicide at just 29 years old. Her husband Ethan Raines made a video discussing his wife’s previous mental health issues and blames online hate for her cause of death.

“She couldn’t bear what she was feeling any longer, and she ended her life,” Raines’ husband said. “And it breaks my heart that someone who is selfless and devoted her life to animals could have so much negativity pointed at her.”

Many fans have put together that most of this hate came from Raines’ “snark subreddit” titled “SaveAFoxSnark.”

“…SaveAFoxSnark is not the only Snark Subreddit. There are many like it who will brainlessly rant and rave and say horrific things about people and groups they have NO understanding of,” According to the petition on Change.org that was started by her fans. “Snark subreddits about REAL people should not be allowed period, because words have meaning. Words have impact.”

Many other YouTube personalities, streamers and even regular celebrities suffer from their own snark subreddits as well. However, Raines had a real mission on YouTube which was to help animals and their environments.

In short, snark subreddits provide a place where online users can anonymously cyberbully online personalities.

Based on scrolling through Reddit, I have discovered that there are different levels and types of snarking.

With 76,000 members, the snark dedicated to the Kardashian-Jenner clan “r/KUWTKsnark” is mostly just people calling out the surgeries and procedures done on the women.

Most of the posts are relatively harmless, as they can be seen in a way to uplift other women and current beauty standards with some unfortunate misogynistic posts from time to time.

According to the snark’s description, “We Gossip, Joke, Kritique, Scoop, Investigations, Memes, Opinions, Videos, Pictures, Trash TalK Keep it fun, fairly civil, humorous, serious, controversial, friendly or whatever tickles you!”

After her huge bombshell of a cancellation, many former fans of YouTuber Colleen Ballinger came together to create a snark Reddit of their own.

On “r/ColleenBallingerSnark,” many fans look back on old videos of Ballinger and discuss what just went over their heads. Then there are the users that continuously post about Ballinger’s new videos, giving her the views that she should not be getting.

The hate-watchers are just proving how weirdly obsessed they are with this creep on the internet. Dedicating so much time to watch her videos, acting like they do not have jobs or personal lives.

I am not saying that Ballinger should not be held accountable, because she 100% should for everything she did. But these obsessed haters need to just let her be instead of further feeding into her weird behaviors. Hate-watching Ballinger’s new content and then making posts about it almost everyday on a hate page is not how you hold someone accountable.

Do not give her the views. Do not talk about her new content. That will just make her feel better about herself and not see what she has done.

Obsessed haters from other communities have actually taken further steps to actually harm these online creators and their families.

Although he has been participating in other snark subreddits for years, pop culture YouTuber Adam McIntyre has now been hit with the haters himself.

McIntyre, who was born in Derry, Ireland, has been staying in the U.S. due to his tour called “The Chronically Online Tour.”

Just recently, McIntyre had been informed that members from his snark “r/AdamMcIntyreSnark” attempted to report him to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“It has come to our attention that members of this subreddit have knowingly submitted false and malicious reports to U.S. (ICE) alleging fraudulent activity concerning McIntyre’s immigration status,” according to a statement posted to McIntyre’s Instagram presumably by his legal team.

A similar situation happened with the crew behind Ethan Klein’s H3 Show in the past.

One of Klein’s crew members, Love, happens to be from Sweden and is in the U.S. on a work visa. After Klein and his wife were getting called out online for an issue with their own subreddit, many snarkers turned to his employees.

“They fabricated–like–a whole–like–movement to try to get me deported at some point too,” the crew member said in an episode from Feb. “It’s just scary when there’s like hundreds and hundreds of people like sending messages to the government and whatever.”

Another crew member Dan Swerdlove chimed in, stating “More like, five or six (people), with hundreds of email accounts, which often was the case.”

Klein’s snark “r/H3snark” (which is now on a brief break) has been filled with thousands of members who will do anything to get the show offline. Similar to Ballinger’s snark, many posts contain clips from recent episodes. The snark members are all just hate-watchers who have nothing else to do with their lives.

Other than attempting to deport Love, they called Child Protective Services (CPS) on the Klein’s and even sent two skulls to their home due to online rumors or clips taken out of context. It is definitely not okay or normal at all to get their home lives involved.

I do not really support or agree with Alix Earle due to her racist past, but many of the posts on her snark are outright ridiculous.

Earle’s brand was not terribly hurt due to her past since many ended up forgiving her or just forgot about it. But her snark subreddit lives on.

Immediately when I clicked on new posts for “AlixEarleSnark,” multiple posts making fun of her appearance came up. The first post I saw was calling out Earle’s “horse teeth” with another one reading, “She looks like a hooker on the road by a gas station.”

None of these posts and statements are okay to say about anybody. In fact it is incredibly misogynistic. If Earle was racist in her past, then call her out on that. Why do we need to poke fun at her features even months after her apology was released?

The “r/LAinfluencersnark” is probably the most popular one I have seen so far. A lot of posts from their members seem to be harmless as well.

This snark is pretty much just used to discuss new drama with influencers in Los Angeles. Most of the posts from members serve more as updates on celebrities rather than bullying their looks or actions.

Based on the timing of what is going on right now, a lot of their hot posts are about the “Love Island” cast and updates on their drama or what they have been doing.

I find it very weird that hate-watching is so common. There are many YouTubers and influencers that I strongly dislike, but I would never take so much time out of my day to watch their videos and make post after post about them on hate pages.
