[GCP] CUD 정확한 활성화 시점 알아보기

Google Cloud에서 비용 최적화를 위해 약정 사용 할인(Committed Use Discounts, CUD)을 활용하는 분들이 많습니다.

CUD는 두가지 타입이 있습니다. 특정 리소스 타입을 지정해서 사용하는Resource Based CUD 와 제품에 사용 금액 기반으로 구매하는 Spend Based CUD 로 나뉩니다.

하지만 이런 CUD를 구매한 후, 정확히 언제부터 할인이 적용되는지 궁금해하시는 분들이 있습니다. 저도 매번 까먹어서 나중에 보려고 정리 해 봅니다.

Resource Based CUD

PDT 00:00 기준으로 Activate 됩니다. (일반적으로 KST로 오후 5시, 섬머타임때-미국기준 인 경우에는 오후 4시) 예를 들어 (No 서머타임) 아침 9시에 구매를 한다면, 오후 5시에 Activate 됩니다. 만료가 되는것도 오후 5시에 Deactivate 가 됩니다.

원문 : After you complete the purchase, you must wait until your commitment 
becomes active before you can start receiving CUDs. 
Your commitment becomes active at 12:00 AM US and Canadian Pacific Time the day after the purchase. 
Depending on daylight saving time, this time is equivalent to UTC-8 (Pacific Standard Time), 
or UTC-7 (Pacific Daylight Time). For example, suppose you purchase your commitment at 3:45 PM US 
and Canadian Pacific Time (UTC-8) on December 1, 2024. 

In this scenario, your commitment becomes active at 12:00 AM US and Canadian Pacific Time (UTC-8) 
on December 2, 2024.

Spend Based CUD

일반적으로 Following hour 에 Activate 됩니다. (49분까지만) 예를 들어 아침 9시 0분~49분사이에 구매를 하시면 아침 10시에 Activate 가 됩니다. 만약 49분 이후~59분사이에 구매를 한다면 아침 11시에 Activate 가 되는 구조입니다.

Your commitment becomes active shortly after purchase and you start getting charged the commitment fee. 
The exact activation time depends on when you purchased the commitment within the hour, as follows:

Purchased during minute 49 or earlier of a specific hour: The commitment becomes active at the start of the next hour. 
For example, if you purchase the commitment between 7:00 PM and 7:49 PM in your timezone, then your commitment becomes 
active at 8:00 PM in that timezone.

Purchased during minute 50 or later of a specific hour: The commitment becomes active at the start of the hour after the next one. 
For example, if you purchase the commitment between 7:50 PM and 7:59 PM in your timezone, then your commitment becomes active at 9:00 PM 
in your timezone.

Resource Based CUD 에서 Spend Based CUD (Flex CUD)로 마이그레이션을 하는 경우에 이 시점을 잘못 잡아서 할인을 놓치거나, 두개를 중복으로 구매하는 경우가 있으니 참고 하시면 좋을것 같습니다.

tldr 로 설명드리면 일반적으로 Flex CUD 구매를 오후 4시00분~4시49분 사이에 구매를 하시면, Flex CUD 의 Activation이 오후 5시에 되고, 기존 Resource Based CUD 의 만료가 오후 5시에 되기 때문에, 딱 맞는 타이밍으로 보시면 될것 같습니다. 물론 섬머타임(미국기준)때에는 오후 3시00분~3시49분 사이에 구매를 하셔야 겠죠.
