How I Conquered My Fear…

From escape to acceptance

I hardly talked about my fears earlier. Yes, the obvious reason is they were intimidating, and I just wanted to escape. It’s not weird but very common. We all do the same — we escape.

Even I did the same; I always walked away from talking, acknowledging, and facing them.

It took me years to identify and face them.

But finally, I recollected all my courage to talk upfront.

Like other children, I also grew up with lots of insecurities, but I called them fear.

I can recall I couldn’t talk to any stranger, even with family comfortably.

I couldn’t climb stairs confidently.

While growing up, facing new people and their opinions and criticism haunted me like a ghost.

I was bullied in school, when I was in 7th standard. They used to tease behind my back and disturb me when I was alone. When I complained to my teacher, they simply denied it. I started being scared of co‑learners.

When I was in college, I used to be afraid of being alone; I didn’t want my friends to leave me.

I always remained insecure about my dusky complexion.

Even asking for help made me overthink.

When I was preparing for competitive exams, I started fearing failure, even exams themselves. This fear was so deep that it turned into anxiety and eventually mental trauma.

I can clearly recall the day before the exam I couldn’t close my eyes, I had severe chest pain just because of fear.

It’s been two years, but the fear of failure left the stain in my heart so deep that even today, failure makes me anxious.

Even today, I get scared when my efforts do not give results.

I get choked, or even worse, when my thinking gets paralyzed.

Fear of rejection still makes my heart race.

But after years of battle, one thing has moved.

Yes, I moved. I still have fears, but my present self learns to acknowledge them, not like my past self, which only escaped.

Now fear no longer fears me.

I’ve learnt to face it and challenge it

Why it’s necessary to address them ?

First of all fears are not constant. They changes their identity with the time and age. But time is limited. once you passed the time you can’t reclaim the moment you lost it, just for the sake of a tiny fear.

How I overcome fear

First identify them, then accept them. Identifying and then accepting that yes, I scared of X is so relieving. You feel that you removed half weight from your chest.

Generally We feared from things which are unknown. That’s why talking to stranger is most common scary part.

If thing haunts me, I start gathering knowledge. I read them, learn about them and try every possible way to make them familiar.

If things not work, I don’t overthink instead I find other way out.

We tend to fear because we are over conscious about future.

But I always focus on today (present).

Yes, I make future goals but I don’t waste time about thinking future result, Instead My focus always stick to present actions.

What You Can Take from My Story

Fears are real! like every other thing, Accepting them is the first bold step to counter them.

Acceptance never completes just with your YES. Finding the reason what’s triggering them is what you’ve to focus next.

And finally taking action is what can completely erase your fears.
