From Confusion to Control: My Journey with Productivity Tools

Before joining the Amal Career Preparation Fellowship, I always felt like I was busy — but not productive. My day was full of tasks, yet I still felt like I wasn’t achieving enough. I often delayed important work because I didn’t know where to begin, and this created stress and frustration.

This course helped me understand that the problem was not a lack of time, but a lack of proper planning and time management.

One of the first techniques I tried was brain dumping. I wrote down all my tasks without thinking too much. At first, the list looked very long and even a bit scary, but at the same time, it gave me clarity. Instead of keeping everything in my mind, I could now see my responsibilities clearly in front of me.

After that, I learned how to prioritize tasks using the Eisenhower Matrix. This method helped me divide my work into the most important and the least important categories. I realized that I was spending too much time on things that were not urgent, while delaying tasks that actually mattered. This was a big turning point for me.

Another tool that made a big difference was Google Calendar. It helped me plan my day in a structured way. When I started assigning specific time slots to my tasks, I felt more in control of my routine. It also reduced my habit of procrastination because I had already decided what to do and when to do it.

The Pomodoro Technique was also a very useful experience for me. Working in 25-minute focused sessions made it easier to concentrate. Instead of feeling tired from long study hours, I stayed more active and engaged.

However, I also faced some challenges. Sometimes, short breaks became longer than planned, especially when I got distracted by my phone. But with practice, I learned to manage my time better and return to work more quickly.

One thing that kept me motivated was giving myself small rewards after completing tasks. This made the process more enjoyable and less stressful.

Overall, this course taught me that productivity is not about doing more work, but about doing the right work at the right time. I have started to feel more organized, confident, and less stressed in my daily routine.

In the future, I plan to continue using these tools and improve my discipline further. I believe these habits will help me not only in my studies but also in my professional life.
