Poem: Chasing Down Rubber Chinguin

Hmmmm, what type of drink would you like?

Hmmmm, what type of drink would you like?

PREFACE: I just wanted to jump in here and quickly give a little introduction of why I break my style of blogs down with short stories and poems. As much as I enjoy blogging, journaling, writing, and reading, I feel myself being burnt when I’m constantly pumping out deep and reflective blogs, weekly. I sense myself becoming shriveled up and emptied out every time I finished writing a ten minute piece. Sometimes writing long blogs in turn feels like pulling teeth, long and painful with no end in sight. At other times, you may have noticed it too where they feel and read like ass grabs…fillers. Maybe that is why it is taking so long for me to finish my book project or am I trying to be too much of a perfectionist? In my eyes, I have to be in the mood to write and not just sit down and barf stupid words on paper. I am weird in a way.

That’s why Grumps and friends exist for me to have some comic relief when I see them trying save their mommy! On top of this, I have not worn rubber in close to two months due to family matters and other conflicting schedules. I have nothing to really blog about- and to make matters worse…when I see rubber events going on, and people we know being able to go leaves a sad aftertaste in my mouth. I do not want to be a debbie downer, but as I mentioned in my last blog: what is this all for? However, the upside is there is always Grumps to save the day and cause a diversion from those thoughts. He is always trying to save me lately, maybe it is a sign! Writing poetry also gives me a good chance to practice because poetry is not my forte. I can read it but cannot write it to save my life. Having said that, I hope you enjoy this piece and any critiques are welcomed. Take it away, Grumps!

Neverending Chasing Game

Who is hot on the trail of the snacking Chinguin?

Legend has it- to find her, you must

follow the misshapen, the chipped, the deformed,

Doritos road they say through Rubberland!

Others have said they have seen her wandering

lost and confused through the aisles of grocery stores,

terrorizing with her might and voice with a single demand.

Give her an endless supply of chips or suffer her wrath!

No curse can hold her hunger,

no latex can hide the pudge that is bulging outwards,

no spell can aide her to control her thirst.

Grumps and his trusty companions leap forth with the

impossible mission in one hand, hope sliping through flippers in the other.

Hearts call out to the once Mighty Rubber Chinguin!

Hear the cries of the penguin army led by the chivalrous Grumps!

Grumps envision mommy like this!

Grumps envision mommy like this!

Following the trail of Doritos, the crumbs of crunchy chips that go

crunch, crunch, crunch, under the anxious and thundering penguin feet.

The cries of horror and agony filling the deep blue sky in Rubberland,

whispered encounters with the barbaric Rubber Chinguin!

Save us! Someone save us! Here comes the towering Chip Fiend!

Grumps and Cheeks search high and low, around buildings,

through alleys, along the underground subway system with no avail.

Nacho Chinguin!

Nacho Chinguin!

Oh where, oh where, could the Rubber Chinguin be?

Footsteps in the shape of Doritos chips are spotted in a trail of mud,

cutting straight through the night into X marks the spot.

Slipping, sliding, tripping over every uneven step covered in lube,

the brave penguin army followed the trail with courage.

Every sound made Grumps’ hair rise on the end of his back,

every pop made Cheeks clutched at his rubber bag tighter.

A Chip fiend never fails to leave evidence behind,

a scent, a crumble, a dribble of drool on the ground, a crunch of a chip.

In the depth of the city of Rubberland, there lies an abandoned building,

made entirely of Doritos of all different flavors.

It can appear welcoming to some and intimidating to others,

but to Grumps…it was where their mommy was.

Out of the chimney of this horribly designed chip building,

floated a consistent stream of orange smoke from its chimney,

pumping into the air a delicious aroma of cheese and spices for miles.

Rubber Chinguin sits in full rubber waiting with glee for

the next person brave enough to challenge her for a bag of chips.

Grumps and Cheeks approached the doors with a heavy heart.

Rubber mittens styled, bubblers carried and aimed to fire,

capes flowing out from behind every back in an array of fiery colors.

Determined gazes unified under everyone’s mask,

go forth, go forth, let us move forth and tackle this impossible task!

A horrible groan escaped from under the flaps of the building,

was it exhaling or letting out exhaust from the chimney?

Grumps froze in step, beads of sweat mixing with beads of lube,

the final test had arrived and there was no return this time.

Again, the building groaned in a deep, low, persistent growl,

beckoning for all those who dared to approach.

Fog growing deep, the creak of the tall door opened to the building,

there she was. Rubber Chinguin, encased in Doritos, shrouded in fumes.

Grumps and Cheeks rose with their friends behind them,

it was now or never for the sake of themselves and for the Chinguin!

All for one — one for all! Thud!!!!

Pit Pat! Grumps slipped and fell backwards onto his back!

In the shadows, always searching and always seeking!

In the shadows, always searching and always seeking!

Chinguin’s Contemplations

Was this a nice little comic relief for you guys? It seems like every blog has been super heavy or it is missing something for me. I think the last one was pretty good-but it did drain my fuel gauge quite a bit. That explains why I handed the baton over to Grumps this time to have a little fun with the blog! He decided it was a great idea to run another rescue mission for his mommy, the infamous Rubber Chinguin. The one and only, Chinguin who is never able to resist the chip urge that surges through her veins! Is that not usually the case though? We are always on some sort of journey or adventure through life each day, aiming for a goal we want to reach or trying to reach someone we care for. In this penguin case though, they were chasing after a hot Doritos trail that they all hoped would lead to the Rubber Chinguin!

Do you know what term I have been hearing of a lot of lately? ‘I needed a good laugh. Or ‘I needed that laugh…’ I have even told that to several of my coworkers recently that have been going through a hard time. We have to find something to laugh about and break that wall of seriousness and emotional turmoil. Come and give me a good laugh! Grumps is wobbling along to take that stage right now! As always, thank you for your support and stay tuned for the next blog!
