Just Call Me Murphy…

If something can go wrong, it will. Yeah. I noticed.

Not in a “life is messy” kind of way. In a nothing stays good kind of way. In a don’t even bother getting your hopes up kind of way.

Plans? Collapse. People? Leave. Hope? Doesn’t disappear all at once — it fades… until one day you realize it’s gone.

And after enough of that, something in you shifts.

You don’t call it bad luck anymore. You don’t try to stay positive. You stop asking why.

You just start expecting it.

Because it’s easier that way. Easier than being blindsided again. Easier than believing something might actually hold.

So you stop reaching.

You expect less. You say less. You feel everything — but show almost nothing. You give more than you should, hoping maybe this time it’ll be different… but already knowing how it ends.

You stay ready.

Not in a strong way. In a tired way. In a here we go again way.

Ready for the shift. Ready for the silence. Ready for people to become strangers overnight.

Not because you’re negative.

Because you’ve been conditioned. You know better.

Conditioned by love that never showed up the way it should have. Conditioned by learning early that needing too much gets you nothing. Conditioned by becoming your own support system before you were ready to be anything at all.

So now?

You don’t trust steady. You don’t trust calm. You don’t trust when things feel okay.

Because “okay” has always been temporary. A pause. A setup.

And deep down, you’re just waiting for it to prove you right.

That’s the part no one sees.

They see distance. They see guarded. They see “hard to read.”

They don’t see the pattern that built it. They don’t see how many times things fell apart right when you started to believe they wouldn’t.

So yeah — call it Murphy’s Law.

But for me?

It’s not a saying. It’s not a mindset. It’s not something I can just turn off.

It’s what happens when “this won’t last” has been right… every single time.

I’m not waiting for things to fall apart anymore — I just never believe they won’t.
