US-Latin Market Crosses $1,000,000,000 in Revenue… Surprise to Some But Not to Me
All the music and entertainment trade news this month was buzzing about the same story, the U.S. Latin music market officially smashed past $1 billion in revenue in 2025 according to recent data from the RIAA.
Of course Wall Street and investors are reacting to this milestone like some kind of overnight sensation, pointing to sudden streaming spikes, viral video trends, and quick playlist hits.
Honestly. a billion-dollar market is no lucky break or no accident.

Thalia, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, and myself.
Street Logic and The True Blueprint
To understand you really have to look at the history and modern data of how we created “The Latin Explosion.”
For me it was personal. Growing up in the Bronx, Latin music wasn’t something I discovered in a corporate meeting, it was literally the soundtrack of my neighborhood. Blaring out of windows, on street corners, in clubs… and it was always incredibly near and dear to me.
As Chairman of Sony Music Entertainment, I never looked at the Latin market as a “niche genre” like it was treated in the industry. For me it was always global pop dominance with potentially multi-talented superstars just waiting to happen and explode. But getting there was not easy… It required an intense, calculated, deliberate, relentless level of artist development, marketing, promotion, PR and strategic, massive, exposure.
We started with iconic legends like Gloria Estefan and Julio Iglesias… they became our cultural centerpiece and lynchpin for the plan. As one of the first artists that I engaged with, Gloria and I spent an enormous amount of time together figuring out how her next album could become the crossover giant that it did, reworking songs and videos and imaging, night and day, for over a year or more.
That type of intense, meticulous, hands-on grinding became our definitive playbook and we used it to sign and build massive global superstar careers for Shakira, J.Lo, Marc Anthony, and Ricky Martin — using the strategy of translating English language hits back into their native Spanish, keeping it real and as pure as possible, yet opening up the world globally, especially for those artists. For me, I was driven. It became my obsession and my passion. After work, sometimes even on the weekends, living in the studio, helping to mix the records, drilling down on every track, every marketing and promotion strategy, because every detail mattered. And building the cultural identity as a premium asset, not something to dilute or waterdown just for American radio.
Authenticity, authenticity, authenticity!
Dissecting the New Playbook
Of course, what we proved back then is exactly what the $1 billion mark proves today: Global Crossover Strategies are driving the entire entertainment business and boosting the live events business 10x (i.e. Bad Bunny, Karol G., etc.)
Today more than ever, audiences want raw and authentic identity. That’s what “The Latin Explosion” is. Also, in country music, a current huge star like Ella Langley, who is crushing it right now, commands the room with exactly who she is. She does not compromise her identity, her sound, or her roots. She does not follow trends. Her true self is her authentic brand.
But here’s the reality check: audio streaming is hitting a ceiling across the board. You can’t just dump 150,000 tracks a day onto a server and expect to scale a business. There’s too much media out there competing for the audience’s attention.
To take this market from $1 billion dollars to $5 billion dollars, we have to stop thinking like the traditional music industry and start thinking like multimedia/total entertainment architects. You have to build a 360-degree ecosystem where music, streaming television, film, and live stadium spectacles all feed into each other.
New Empire
Bad Bunny headline this year’s Super Bowl was electrifying — musically and culturally. And seeing everything come full circle now with Shakira headlining the World Cup puts another exclamation point on that!!!!! Latin Music is a powerful, emotional way that many other genres are not, and both audiences and executives have fully bought in.

The billion-dollar mark isn’t the finish line… it is just beginning.
