LOVE, SKIN & SILK — Food of Politics
Was it destiny… justice… or simply the cost of love? I say, The food of politics.
LOVE, SKIN & SILK — Food of Politics

Akbar did not respond. He simply decided. Days later…Imagined in Meta
Act 1
The court of Akbar moved with precision.
Nothing lingered. Nothing exceeded its place.
Except a gaze.
Prince Jahangir watched Mehrunnissa, not openly, but constantly.
She felt it. But never turned.
Akbar (measured):
“You look too long at things that cannot remain.”
Salim (quiet): “Some things remain… even when they are taken away.”
Akbar did not respond.
He simply decided. Days later
Akbar: “She will be married.”
Courtiers: “To whom?”
Akbar: “To certainty.”
A pause.
Akbar: “Sher Afghan Khan.”
Outside, the air had begun to warm. Inside, something had already ended.
Act 2
Bengal did not ask questions.
It settled into you slowly.
Days stretched longer. Afternoons grew heavy.
Mehrunnissa learned to live without looking back …
Sher Afghan was not unkind.
Sher Afghan: “You speak less.”
Mehrunnissa: “I am listening more.”
He accepted that. Then came a child. Ladli Begum.
Sher Afghan (softening): “She will grow without fear.”
Mehrunnissa held her daughter closer.
For a moment, she believed him.
Mehrunnissa held her daughter closer.

Mehrunnissa held her daughter closer.
Act 3
In Burdwan, time passed without announcement.
Laughter filled the mornings. Evenings grew quieter.
Laadli: “Ammi… will we always stay by side?”
Mehrunnissa looked at her.
Mehrunnissa: “Always.”
News travelled slowly.
Then all at once.
Akbar was gone. Salim was now emperor…
The mighty Jahangir.
The air changed after that. Subtle. But certain.
Laadli: “Why does that name make everything quiet?”
Mehrunnissa turned away.
Mehrunnissa: “Because some doors… do not stay closed.”
She knew the man behind the emperor! First time in her life She was afraid of his love.

Act 4
The day the officers arrived, nothing seemed unusual.
That was the first sign.
Officer: “Sher Afghan Khan, you are required to answer for disloyalty.”
Sher Afghan stood still.
Sher Afghan: “I have served without question.”
Officer: “Then stand and prove it.”
A moment stretched. Then broke.
Steel moved. Voices rose. And somewhere behind it —
Laadli cried out.
Mehrunnissa did not look away.
She watched. As the life she had built, ended in front of her… as if she knew…
By evening, Sher Afghan was gone.
Far away, Jahangir set his cup aside.
Jahangir (to himself): “It was necessary.”
But even he did not sound convinced…
The journey back was quiet.
Dust replaced fields. Stone replaced earth.
When she entered the court, no one spoke.
Jahangir saw her. Not as memory. But as consequence of Love and Silk…
Jahangir: “You came back to me ...”
Mehrunnissa: “I was brought back.”
Nothing more was said. Nothing more needed to be.
The palace had rules. And rules did not bend for love.
Attendant: “The child… cannot remain.”
Silence. Mehr-un-Nissa knelt before Laadli…
Laadli (soft, confused): “Ammi… why are you not coming?”
Mehrunnissa held her face. Carefully. As if memorizing it.
Mehrunnissa: “You must be brave.”
She stood. And let her go.
She became Nur Jahan.
Power settled around her like something she had always known.
She spoke and the court listened. She decided and the empire shifted.
They ruled. They were remembered. They became history.

She became Nur Jahan.
Final Act
But sometimes,
In the stillness between decisions, Nur Jahan would pause.
As if hearing something distant. A voice. A memory.
A child running across open fields… of Burdwan…
And Jahangir, would watch her.
Knowing,
There are victories that do not feel like victory.
And decisions … that never truly end.
The wind moves through the old stones.
Nothing remains of power.
Nothing remains of decisions.
Time Passed and today as I stand Infront of their Graves…
Only this.
A mother. A daughter. Side by side.
And a question that no empire could ever answer:
Was it destiny… justice… or simply the cost of love?
I say, The food of politics.

The food of politics.
