How to connect my Edimax Wifi Extender to Alexa?

In case you are using amazon Alexa but it gets disconnected from the Internet every time. Then You can set up a wifi range extender to enhance your wifi range and connect your alexa to it. In this guide we will teach you all the steps to do this.

First and foremost, make sure you have already set up your router. Plus keep your router’s network name(SSID) and password handy. We will require it while setting up the edimax extender. Moreover if you have already setup your alexa then you can change its wifi to edimax. In case, you haven’t yet then we will connect it directly to edimax extender SSID.

So, let’s learn how to set up the edimax first.

Edimax Extender Setup

• For this process make sure you have plugged the extender and the router in the same room.
• Now, wait until you have stable power led on the wifi repeater.
• Next, connect to the edimax network name in your wifi list on your phone or computer.
• Open a browser on the very same device next, and then in the url type ***edimaxext.setup*** and hit enter.
• It will take you to your extender’s setup page. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the setup.
• After setup note down edimax SSID and password as we will need to use them while connecting it to Alexa.

Connecting Edimax to Alexa

Now, there are two ways to connect alexa to extender’s network name. First is if it is already set up and second is setting it up from scratch.

If Alexa is already setup

• So, here we simply just need to switch the alexa to the new extender’s network name.
• For this, open the Alexa app.
• Now go to Menu>>settings>>device settings and then select the echo device for which you wish to change the wifi network.
• Under “wireless wifi network” option click on “Change”.
• Next you will need to press the action button for 6 seconds on the Echo.
• As you see an orange light on the echo, follow the on screen instructions to complete the setup.
• It will ask you to select the network name to which you would like to hook up your alexa. So, simply select your edimax extender network name. Plus type its password for confirmation.

If Alexa is not setup

• You will need to download and install the alexa app on your wifi device like an android or iOS phone.
• Now, create an alexa account or sign in if you already have one. This account is the same as your amazon account which you use to order products online.
• So, make sure you plug the Alexa into an area with strong wifi sigals.
• At first the light will blink blue on the alexa and after 60 seconds the lights start to blink amber or orange.
• We also recommend you to turn the bluetooth on your cell phone for this setup.
• On your alexa app click on the “devices” tab on the bottom of the screen. Next, click on “Add a device”.
• Next, select the model of the alexa that you would like to add into the alexa app.
• On the next screen it will ask you to choose the network name with which you would like to connect your alexa too.
• So, select your edimax wifi extender from the list and type its password for the confirmation.
• Now just confirm the name and location of your alexa device to complete the setup.
