The Distraction That Became Nature

When We Turn Into Many Things

Series: Human From Within

You're reading.

But you're not here.

Your eyes are on the words —

and your mind is at an appointment it missed.

And your heart is in an argument that hasn't ended yet.

And your finger scrolls up —

before you understand what you read.

This isn't laziness.

This isn't a lack of interest.

This is what the world did to you —

when it gave you everything at the same time.

1. Repetition Numbs

The first time you saw something beautiful —

you stopped.

The second time —

you smiled.

The tenth time —

you scrolled past it.

The thing didn't change.

You're the one who changed.

The mind gets used to everything —

even to what used to shake it.

2. The Scattered Human

Your hands are searching for something.

Your mind is somewhere else.

Your heart is in a third place.

Three people in one body —

and none of them hears the other.

This isn't ordinary distraction.

This is fragmentation.

The difference — distraction can be gathered back.

Fragmentation needs you to find the pieces first.

3. Your Circumstances Resemble No One Else's

He sits in front of his screen —

his eyes on the words —

his mind calculating yesterday's loss.

He talks to someone in front of him —

nods and smiles —

and his heart is in an unfinished conversation with someone else.

He reads a sentence —

it shakes him —

then he moves past it before he understands why it shook him.

Not because he doesn't want to be present.

But because his pieces are scattered across everything —

and not enough of him is left for a single moment.

Words arrive —

when they find an empty place waiting for them.

And whoever's pieces are scattered in every direction —

doesn't have that place.

It isn't refusal.

It's a fullness of another kind.

Open Ending

The question isn't:

why aren't people present?

The question is:

who was the last person who was present with all their pieces, in one place?

Their hands.

Their mind.

Their heart —

in the same moment.

When was that moment, for any of us?
