Dedicated to you who just became a mother

It’s such a joy to have a new baby arriving to the world, and you are seeing friends who become mother would be posting happy pictures of them with their newborn baby on their hospital beds. But how much do you really see in the picture?
The surface: happy mama, little cute newborn.
The full picture? I still remember — the feeling after giving birth was so impressive that it still feels like yesterday.
I remember really just wanting to sleep most of the time — not only was I physically tired and recovering from the postpartum period, but I’ve never been forced to wake up so often and sleep so little, not even for the 120 hours/week inhuman job when I was younger.
Newborns need to be fed every hour or two, day and night. So imagine you feed your baby at night, he sleeps 1 hour, then you start to fall asleep maybe only 20 minutes and he needs another meal. You fed him, try to get some sleep, soon he is crying again. To sleep for more than 2 hours in one go is a luxury.
Although I had a C-section, still like mothers who gave birth naturally, we suffered the great pain from the wound. I couldn’t stand up the first day but the nurses came and forced me to get up and walk, because it will accelerate healing. Every step I took, I had indescribable pain expanding from the wound to the whole body.
Breastfeeding sounds like a normal, easy, and natural thing to do, but it’s not that simple. Many women suffer from blocked duct — their breasts are swollen, tender and painful to the point of feeling they are ready to explode.
Even after childbirth, women continuous bleeding — “Lochia”, which is like menstruation but much heavier.
Of course, as the child grows, there will be more problem later, but the challenges are coming from different levels and areas. For our babies it worth all the suffers, but it’s still a very tough time after birth.
When visiting the newborn, please also pay more attention to the mother.
