Partner Marketing in 2026 — There is a Better Way

Challenging Mediocrity with Data and Ai

We’ve been doing partner marketing the same way for far too long. Year after year, partner-generated leads under deliver. Budget reviews become contentious. C-suites question the ROI. And somehow, we blame the partners.

The real problem? We’re still operating with playbooks from 1994.

Partner marketing has been chasing the same tired playbook for decades: generate volume through MQLs and SQLs, qualify based on BANT frameworks that nobody actually follows anymore, and hope something converts. We measure everything except what matters. We tolerate waste we’d never accept in other channels. And we keep doing it because, well, that’s how it’s always been done.

It’s time to ask harder questions.

Why do we select partners based on hunches or requests from sales rather than data-backed capability assessment? Why aren’t we evaluating their resources, tech stack, and vertical relevance before we activate them? The data exists, externally available intelligence that tells us exactly which partners have the skills and infrastructure to deliver outcomes in your target markets. We’re simply not using it.

Why do we measure partner effectiveness in ways that never satisfy the board? Because we’re measuring the wrong things. We count leads like they matter equally. We ignore velocity, buyer group composition, and actual opportunity quality. We lack proper attribution models that reflect how buying actually happens today. Meanwhile, our competition isn’t buying through BANT sequences anymore. They’re doing research on ChatGPT (which captures 91% of all AI search queries), consulting peers, and building consensus across buyer groups.

Our partner strategies haven’t evolved to match this reality.

Why does the promise of scale remain elusive? Because we haven’t connected partner selection and activation to a coherent strategy. We treat partners as a tactical channel rather than a strategic lever. We run disconnected campaigns — a lunch-and-learn here, a demand gen push there — without understanding which blend of ABM, demand generation, events, and partnerships actually moves the needle for our specific business. We don’t guide partners toward the customer outcomes that matter, so they optimize for activity instead.

And frankly, a lunch-and-learn in 2025 isn’t the answer it was thirty years ago.

Here’s what modern partner marketing actually requires:

Early partner engagement in your go-to-market strategy, not as an afterthought. Vertical relevance as a selection criterion, not a nice-to-have. Middle-of-funnel velocity at scale, because that’s where competitive differentiation happens and deals get lost. Buyer group identification, because deals require consensus from multiple stakeholders. Real attribution models that reflect the complexity of how enterprise buying actually works. And outcomes-based activation, where every partner campaign is tied to measurable business results, not lead counts.

This requires a different approach to partner selection, activation, and measurement. It requires discipline. It requires data.

At Sherpa, we’ve built the Momentum platform and developed a Partner Marketing funnel specifically designed for this reality. It’s built on the premise that partner marketing should deliver at scale without waste — that you can activate partners globally with precision, knowing exactly which ones have the capability and market positioning to drive real outcomes.

And we’re not stopping there. In two weeks, we’re launching a new Partner Marketing Catalogue designed to operationalize everything I’ve outlined here. It’s built on data, focused on outcomes, and designed to help you scale partner-driven revenue in ways that actually satisfy the C-suite.

Partner marketing doesn’t have to be the underperformer in your portfolio. The data exists to make it far more effective. The tools exist. The frameworks exist.

What’s missing is the commitment to get smarter.

Let’s get smarter in partner marketing. There’s a better way, and we can help you prove it works at scale, globally.

Are you ready to challenge the status quo?
