From Bekasi to Bandung: Whoosh or Parahyangan? Which One Is Better?
Bandung is one of the most popular tourist destinations for people living around Jabodetabek. There are many transportation options from Bekasi to Bandung, such as travel cars, buses, trains, and even high-speed train. In this blog, I will specifically compare Whoosh and Parahyangan.
For many people from Jabodetabek, traveling to Bandung is more than just a weekend escape. It has become part of urban culture. Every weekend, students, office workers, and families fill the trains heading to Bandung to enjoy the city’s cooler weather, famous local food, factory outlets, and trendy cafés.

A little flashback, Whoosh is the first high-speed train in Indonesia and even Southeast Asia, with routes from Halim Station to Tegalluar Summarecon Station or vice versa. Meanwhile, Parahyangan, formerly known as Argo Parahyangan, was previously a combination of Argo Gede and Parahyangan trains, with routes from Gambir Station to Bandung Station or vice versa. For Whoosh, there are also stops at Karawang Station (only for several train schedules) and Padalarang Station. Meanwhile, Parahyangan also stops at Jatinegara Station (only for several train schedules), Bekasi Station, Purwakarta Station, and Cimahi Station.
Ticket Prices
For ticket prices, both transportation modes have quite significant differences. Whoosh has three classes:
- Premium Economy (Rp275k-Rp350k)
- Business Class (Rp450k)
- First Class (Rp600k)

Meanwhile, Parahyangan has two regular classes:
- Economy (Rp145k-Rp175k)
- Executive (Rp150k-Rp230k)
Besides that, Parahyangan also offers Luxury (Rp435k), Priority (Rp340k-Rp345k), and Panoramic (Rp355k).

Travel Time
For travel time, Whoosh from Halim Station to Padalarang Station only takes around 30-37 minutes. However, after arriving at Padalarang Station, passengers still need to continue using the feeder train to Bandung Station, which takes around 19 minutes.

Meanwhile, Parahyangan from Bekasi Station to Bandung Station only takes around two hours without the need to transfer to another train.
Budget Tips
I also have some tips for people who want to save money when traveling to Bandung using these two transportation options, especially during high season when ticket prices can become very expensive.
If you want to use Whoosh (Premium Economy), you can buy two separate tickets:
- Halim → Karawang: Rp100k
- Karawang → Padalarang: Rp150k
By doing this, you can save around Rp25k-Rp100k.
For Parahyangan, you can also split the tickets:
Bekasi → Purwakarta
- Executive: Rp90k
- Economy: Rp70k
Purwakarta → Bandung
- Executive: Rp60k
- Economy: Rp40k
This method is especially useful for students or backpackers. You also do not need to worry about how to check in for the second ticket, because as long as you have the digital ticket, you can simply show it to the conductor when asked.
Efficiency and Travel Experience
For efficiency, I think Parahyangan is the winner because passengers do not need to transfer again. From Bekasi Station, passengers can directly arrive at Bandung Station.
Meanwhile, for Whoosh, passengers need to go to Halim Station first. My suggestion is that if your house is located near the Jabodebek LRT line, you can simply use the LRT because Halim LRT Station is already connected to the Whoosh station. You can board from stations such as Jatibening Baru, Cikunir 1, Cikunir 2, or Bekasi Barat.
Besides efficiency, both trains also offer different travel experiences. Whoosh feels modern and futuristic because it represents Indonesia’s new transportation era. Meanwhile, Parahyangan feels more relaxing and nostalgic, especially because passengers can enjoy mountain views and greener landscapes during the journey (especially during daytime trips).
Conclusion

Bandung Station.
In my opinion, if you prioritize speed and modern facilities, Whoosh is the better option. However, if you prioritize practicality, affordability, and direct access from Bekasi to Bandung, Parahyangan is still the better choice.
At the end of the day, both trains have their own advantages, and Bandung will always be worth visiting.
