Since I retired, not long ago, I have been struggling to protect my time and health.

I consider every day spent well with family, friends, reading, writing, taking care of my fitness, being satisfied and being self-sufficient.

Here are seven thoughts I came up with.

Health is not negotiable-the discipline of exercising daily, whether it is cardio or resistance, is mandatory.

If one does not make time for exercise, will make time for illness.

Physical exercise prevents diseases that mainstream medicine can’t cure. I knew for a long time, from my profession and work, that physical exercise is medicine.

I started to experience knee pain since retirement. Now I walk and cycle more, and the pain disappeared for now. If it returns I’ll look in more detail.

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live. “ –Jim Rohn

No more stress –Eliminate, stress and everything which makes you upset. There is no place for this at your dinner table. You were stressed enough in your previous years. It is time to discard it.

“Rule number one is, don’t sweat the small stuff. Rule number two is, it’s all small stuff”.– Robert Eliot.

Eliminate any major debt — Chase debt like never before.

Markets are unpredictable.

Peace of mind at this stage is worth more than a new car.

There is no talk about becoming rich at this point in life.

Your savings are essential for years to come.

“Debt is not only a financial vulnerability, it’s also an emotional one. “ -Benjamin Franklin.

Keep your mind sharp — brain is also a muscle. Train it to stay strong or lose it.

Read, learn a new skill or a foreign language.

Remain curious about everything that interests you.

You will find satisfaction out of everything you do with your own hands.

The other day, I repaired my bicycle, the bicycle shop was closed.

I looked in Lennard Zinn’s book, and I was able to do the work myself.

I was stunned with the result and experienced an immense feeling of self sufficiency. Not to talk about the fees saved at the mechanic.

A bored mind ages faster. Remain curious.

“ Every man if he so desires becomes sculptor of his own brain “ -Ramon Y . Cajal ( Nobel prize winner — Neuroscientist ).

Let it go — Forgive, not for others but for yourself.

Avoid any grudges like poison. At this stage in life, forgiveness is gold.

It takes a lot of weight off of your shoulder.

“ Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were“ -Cherie Carter — Scott.

Be content with what you have — No need to chase more than what you accumulated until now.

Unwise spending is not your goal at this stage in life.

Spend time enjoying what you have.

“ Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving” — Warren Buffett.

Avoid arguments - You are a survivor.

Count the days left to live, and you will see that you have less than what you had when you started to work.

Fools do not deserve your time to argue with.

Your silence is not weakness, it is budget management.

“ The only way to get the best of an argument, is to avoid it“ — Dale Carnegie
