Sirte Tribes Condemn Acts of Banditry by Misrata Brigades & Oppose Use of Sirte as Base for Attack on Oil Fields

TRANSLATION

Statement by the tribes of Sirte

Said the Almighty: “And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only.” [Quran Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:11]

All the tribes of Sirte declare their complete rejection of what has been happening inside Sirte since the announcement of liberation; with the acts of theft and looting of public and private property by members of the brigades belonging to and affiliated with the Al-Bunyan Al-Marsus Operation Room; the insults directed at the city’s residents and the conversion of their homes into the headquarters of the militias; the closing of the city’s entrances and exits with sand barriers, and the neighbourhood checkpoints; the difficulty experienced by the city’s residents in entering their homes, as well as the tampering with the Animal-Feed Factory, which is most critical for the city’s income.

We hold responsible the Municipal Council of Misrata, the Council of Elders, the Shura Council of Misrata and Al-Banyan Al-Marsus, and they bear responsibility for what is happening in Sirte with the looting of homes and public property, and the theft of electricity wires. We will not allow the so-called Shura Council and National Guard, headed by Colonel Mahmoud Al-Zegal and belonging to the Salvation Government–to take the city of Sirte as a base from which to attack the oil fields which are the subsistence of the Libyan people–and we will be an impenetrable dam (barrier) against those who are with him from the Muslim Brotherhood and the militants.

We call for the activation the security services such as Security Directorate and the police stations and will not accept any illegal body in the city.
