Herre, herre

The word “Lord” encloses the Christian hermeneutical explosion. The word is the circumlocution for the divine name. It was also, in the time of Christian origins, the current title of emperors and kings. But now it is used of one who is no emperor but the crucified victim of imperial rule. Christians believe that his giving and serving, the very opposite of what one expects from emperors and gods, are the presence of the divine name.

När kristna kallar Jesus för Herre, så bär det lilla ordet på så mycket. Vi säger Herre, och menar redan från början inte en Herre i det patriarkala förtryckets bemärkelse utan en som både gör anspråk på titeln och skruvar till den. Det är en anspelning på Guds namn och det är en anspelning på kejsarens titel. Och den som gör anspråket har intagit den mest vanärade position den antika världen kunde tänka sig — korset.
