Fangraphs Analyzes Padres Prospects

Now that the offseason is officially underway, it’s time to set our eyes on 2017. For the past few years, ***Fangraphs* has taken a deep dive into each organization’s farm system. The Padres’ “prospect report card”, written by Eric Longenhagen**, was posted earlier today and features scouting reports, statistical information, graphics and comparisons.

Prospects are rated on a term titled “Future Value” created by Fangraphs in 2014. To learn more about the methodology, click ***here***.

Prospects with a 40 FV grade will have a detailed scouting report while prospects with a lower FV will have a brief mention. In the report card, 32 Padres prospects had a FV of at least 40.

In the overview, Longenhagen mentions that, “this is one of baseball’s deepest systems” which many Padres fans already knew. We also learned in the summary that, “One evaluator told [him] the group of talent in San Diego’s instructional-league camp was the best he’d seen in a decade.”
