Sitting cross-legged in a neon-lit rehearsal studio, Svrviva leans forward with a faint grin as she talks about “glad,” a raw, ironic take on heartbreak — equal parts wounded pride and forced optimism. “I wanted something that says ‘I’m over you, but not really,’” she admits. “You’re telling yourself you’re glad, you’re fine, you’re cool — when in reality, part of you is on fire.”
She references some key lines:
“Glad that we’re over Hand on my heart ya I’m glad that you found her”
“Sometimes you say you’re ‘glad’ just to keep your dignity,” Svrviva explains with a slight laugh. “Like, ‘Yeah, I’m happy for you, see how mature I am.’ But deep down, it stings — ’cause you remember how it used to be you in that spot, sharing that closeness.”
The irony only sharpens with:
“So glad she is pretty So glad she is younger Hope you don’t miss me glad like a bird put out of its mis’ree so glad that I hurt”
“That’s the sarcasm cutting in,” she says. “I mean, who’s actually glad to be like a wounded bird put out of misery? It’s that messed-up feeling where you’re forcing a smile while your pride takes a beating.”
A peak moment hits here:
“didn’t know I’d be this hurt it’s not cause of this girl but the way that you kiss her”
“It’s not about the person he’s with,” she confesses, “it’s how he replaced me so easily. The notion of him kissing her exactly how he used to kiss me… that’s the deeper sting.”
Yet Svrviva’s vulnerability cracks through in the bridge:
“sure you don’t miss me maybe I miss you know we are hist’ree don’t mind if you come thru”
“It’s the admission that I’m not as strong as I pretend,” she says. “We all act like we’re over it, but sometimes we secretly hope they show up anyway.”
Musically, “glad” uses airy pop hooks to mask heavier themes. “I wanted a melody that feels light,” she notes. “It makes the irony stronger: you’re nodding along, then realizing the lyrics cut deeper than you thought.” That tension sets the tone for glad as an album — both catchy on the surface and incisive upon closer listen.
