Let’s Wish Susan Collins a Happy Retirement

Graham Platner’s victory speech on June 9 was a classic. (For the TL;DR, start watching the linked video at 05:42.) Platner said, in one of the best political speech lines ever written, “I will be the senator for the people who can’t afford to buy a senator.” Whoever wrote that deserves a Nobel Prize for Literature and Economics. Marrying affordability to corruption like that was pure genius.

I know the guy’s got “issues,” but he’s right on “the issues,” so he’s in the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” category for me. I think he’s really good on the stump. Unless new and even more disturbing stuff comes out about him, I think he’s going to be an important voice in our politics for some time.

Not much more for me to say. Platner’s litany of Sen. Collins’ derelictions begins at 12:37 in the video. To be honest, I just wanted an excuse post the pic. The woman single-handedly killed Roe v. Wade by voting to confirm Justices everyone knew would vote to overturn it. The albatross is hers to wear until November, at least.
