How I Created My First Custom GPT In 5mins With No Coding Experience

This week, all I’ve seen on my social feeds are posts about GPT’s release of a new tool for creating custom GPTs. Naturally, I had to test it out!

It turns out it’s super easy!

Here’s what I did and how. I work in ecommerce, and new product development is a significant part of my job. Product research can be quite time-consuming, and although I’ve used ChatGPT before to help with research, it’s annoying to start a new chat and explain my requirements repeatedly.

So, I decided to create a Product Analyzer GPT specifically for skincare products. It researches the benefits of ingredients online and provides a summary of these benefits, along with the top three most important benefits of each product. Im using this for research purposes only to give me a quick summary of the benefits, it’s not a 100% bullet proof and fact checked research..

Here’s how it looks:

For some reason, whenever I create prompts for any AI tool, I can’t shake off the feeling that my instructions come across as overly demanding, like I’m commanding “You must do this and that!” Does anyone else feel the same? :D

The custom GPT is not perfect grammatically (or visually, it created it’s own logo), but since I’ll be using it to ease my own workload, that doesn’t matter much.

Here’s how you can build your own custom GPT for ecommerce or anything else in just 5mins:

1. Visit https://chat.openai.com/ and log in.
2. Access the Premium version. It costs 20 USD per month. While not free, you aren’t locked into a long subscription — it’s billed monthly. I opted for a one-month trial to test it out.
3. Go to your profile and select “My GPTs.”
4. Click “Create New.”

I will write another post about the “Market Scout GPT” that I created. It’s a super simple GPT that makes a summary about amazon seller related news on a weekly basis. Super easy to do as well!

5. You’ll then see a “Create” page where you can describe the type of GPT you want.

6. Click “Configure.” Here, you can add the name, description, and instructions for your GPT. You can also upload files under “Knowledge” to teach the GPT what you know — super cool!

Here you can add the name, description and instructions for the GPT depending on what you want it to do. You can also click the “upload files” under “Knowledge” and teach the GPT your knowledge. Super cool!

There are many other options, some of which seem more advanced, and I’m not fully sure what they do. But for creating a simple GPT like mine, that’s all you need! You can test it, tweak instructions if needed, and then publish it for your use or for others.

I’ve read that buying custom GPTs is becoming popular, so this could be an exciting business idea for someone, even for someone AI newbie.
