Yei Joint Stars have clinched the women’s league championship for the fourth consecutive time after defeating rival Mission FC in a final match, celebrated by fans and officials in Yei Freedom Square.

Yei Joint Stars defend local women’s football cup title
Yei Joint Stars, a local women’s football club in Central Equatoria’s Yei River County, has been crowned yet again the champions of the women’s league following a final match with rival Mission FC. This is the fourth time they have won the same title in a row.
Emmanuel Taban Seme, Yei River County commissioner, was the guest of honour at the league grand finale. He congratulated both teams for their efforts and for having reached such an advanced stage in a competitive football game which had several teams all aiming for the cup.
The team’s head coach, Soni Harriet, praised her players for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament. “We won the final match against Mission FC with thousands of spectators at Yei Freedom Square and I am very proud of the team,” Harriet said.

“Winning the league for the fourth time in a row is a dream come true! We worked tirelessly as a team, and each match brought us closer together,” the team captain said.
She thanked their fans for their unwavering support; “we play for you!” she exclaimed.
“Watching Yei Joint Stars play is always an electrifying experience because their determination and skill uplift our community, and I couldn’t be prouder to support them as they claim the championship title once again,” Aisha Araba, Longtime Yei Joint Stars Supporter said in an exclusive interview.
Mama Hawa Adams is a women leader in Yei River County. She encouraged young girls to play football to put in more effort.
“I acknowledge the teams for representing the county level and commend you for playing with determination to win and reach the national level. I thank all supporters for attending this grand finale match,” she said at the closing ceremony.
Yei River County youth and sports director, Clement Beneath appreciated Mission FC’s efforts to become champions like Yei Joint Stars and urged young players to play well and defend the county.
The Yei Women’s Cup, which has eight teams, is organized by the Yei Local Football Association (YLFA). The cup’s winner usually represents the county at the national women’s league that will be played in Juba later in the year.
