Try these 7 Habits for One Week

… And watch your college life transform remarkably

As well as your grades, if you don’t stop after the first week.

Are you tired of feeling like a hot mess in college? Want to turn things around and become a productivity powerhouse? Look no further! I present to you: the ultimate guide to transforming your college life in just one week.

1. Have a constant bedtime and wake-up time:

Nothing says “I have my life together” like a consistent sleep schedule. One of the most important things you can do for your overall well-being is to establish a consistent sleep schedule.

Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day helps regulate your body’s internal clock, leading to better sleep and more energy during the day. My bedtime is 10.30 p.m. and my wake-up time is 5.30 a.m.

The challenge of maintaining this sleep schedule will urge you to make better use of the daytime. And if you really want to put this into practice, you can use the 3–2–1 formula for your bedtime.

Don’t eat anything 3 hours before your bedtime.

Don’t drink anything 2 hours before your bedtime.

Drop your phone for the night 1 hour before your bedtime.

And for your wake-up time. Set a recurring alarm and keep it far from you so you’ll have to stretch a bit before hitting the snooze button.

Trust me, your body and your grades will thank you.

2. Lay your bed and keep your space neat at all times:

There’s no better feeling than returning from lectures to a well-laid bed and a neat corner. A clean and organized living space can do wonders for your mental and emotional well-being.

A cluttered and disorganized space can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety, while a clean and tidy space can promote feelings of calmness and clarity.

Calmness and clarity are the best moods for study; you’ll assimilate the concepts better and make better use of your study time. Plus, you’ll impress any surprise guests with your impeccable cleaning skills.

3. Practice gratitude journaling/devotional:

Taking the time to reflect on the things you are grateful for can have a profound impact on your mood and overall outlook on life. Whether it’s through journaling, meditating, or a formal devotional practice, focusing on gratitude can help shift your perspective from one of scarcity to one of abundance. It keeps you motivated and helps you manage stress better.

4. Prepare for classes of the next day the night before:

This one’s a no-brainer. By taking the time to review notes, organize materials, and lay out your outfit for the next day, you’ll be able to start your day with a clear head and a sense of calm, instead of scrambling for notes and textbooks in the morning.

5. Study for at least 1 hour daily and at the same time:

Consistency is key when it comes to studying. And by consistency, I mean your study space, study time, and study session length all have to be the same daily. By setting aside dedicated study time every day, you’ll be able to make steady progress on your coursework without feeling overwhelmed. I study by 7 p.m. daily for two hours (except on weekends; my weekends are for blogging and Netflix).

My study session looks a little bit like this:

Review previous notes and flashcards

Review all the new things I learned in class that day

Make flashcards for the new concepts while reviewing them

Practice active recall for both the previous topic and the new topics

Review both previous and new flashcards

Then I call it a night! Develop a study plan that works for you and stick to it or you could try mine.

6. Start your day with positive affirmations daily:

Starting your day with a dose of positivity can help set the tone for the rest of your day. Whether it’s a simple mantra like “I am capable” or “I am worthy” or a more specific affirmation like “I am going to ace the Statistics test,” the power of positive affirmations cannot be overstated.

7. Set your goals for the day every day:

How are you going to conquer the world if you don’t have a plan? By setting clear and achievable goals for yourself each day, you’ll be able to focus your efforts and make steady progress toward your long-term goals. Write down your goals for the day and crush them one by one. You can list them out as a checklist to keep track of how many goals you crush each day.

I use the app Microsoft To-Do to plan my days, keep track of due assignments and deadlines, and generally manage my time effectively. I’ve been using it for a year plus, and honestly, it always feels like I have more than 24 hours in a day… because how do I have enough time for everything I plan to do plus some extra time for Netflix and Social media surfing!?

Bonus Tip:

Tracking your daily expenses:

Knowing how much money you’re spending and where it’s going can be a real eye-opener. By keeping a record of your expenses, you’ll be able to budget more effectively and avoid overspending. Plus, you’ll be able to see where you can cut back and save some extra cash for things like textbooks, online courses, or whatever other valuable thing you have in mind.

I use an app named MyMoney to make monthly budgets and keep track of my spending and income all in one place.

Conclusion

So there you have it! Seven habits that could transform your college life and grades remarkably. But remember, always prioritize your mental and physical health above all else. This means taking regular breaks, getting enough sleep, and engaging in self-care practices that work for you. And above all, don’t take yourself too seriously, have fun and enjoy the college experience. After all, college is a time for learning, growing, and discovering yourself. So embrace the journey and make the most of it!
