Is Portuguese a difficult language?

We are 300 million speakers, the 5th most spoken language in the world. However, despite the significant size of our community, there is little content available for those who wish to learn it as a foreign language.

And we cannot say that this lack is due to a lack of interest. According to official data, Brazil has registered 1,700,000 immigrants in the last ten years, and Portugal, around 550,000. Interestingly, most of these people are non-Portuguese speakers.

So, if you want to learn Portuguese, unlike other languages such as Spanish, French, English, and German, you will have a hard time finding high-quality materials and effective strategies.

This happens partly because much of the little content available online is rarely developed by qualified professionals. And we cannot be naïve and ignore the importance of materials in digital spaces, since this is where people look for information.

That’s why I’m here! I am a Language Arts graduate from the University of São Paulo, specialized in Applied Linguistics, and I want to share with you methods and study strategies that truly make a difference when acquiring the Portuguese language.
