Why Opening A Ko-fi Account Means More To Me Than Meets The Eye

I have doubts and fears about this writing thing but I’m jumping anyway

I’ve seen many writers on here use a buy me a coffee or Ko-fi links, either within their posts or at the end of it. Providing a way for appreciative readers to tip them.

I’ve been a bit hesitant with this, and didn’t really consider it earlier, but things have shifted within me recently.

I’ve been showing up a tad more bolder in putting my work out there more. Exploring my creativity in different ways, and being more creatively courageous.

I’m deciding to jump before the safety net appears! Swimming in the creative waters and seeing where I end up.

I’m choosing my voice more and more

Because every way we show up online is a testament of what we believe we are worth. Every posts, every system in place, every offerring, every connection can be an affirmation of the fact we believe in our vision, our work, our words.

Even if one is t writing to make money, we still all want our work seen.

I’m choosing to think positively that things will work out for the best in my writing journey.

I’m affirming that there are people out there who enjoy reading my words.

I’m choosing to be my own algorithm, marketer, creativity coach, promoter, fan, public relations offer, mentor, and greatest supporter.

Having a Ko-fi is a digital manifestation of me believing in the worth of what I offer.

I mean there’s gotta be someone out there who’s willing to throw me a dollar or more for my writing. 😏

My writing can’t be that crap.

That no one can be bothered to show some support with a tip.

Nah, I’m kidding.

I know it’s not always about that.

It’s because some people aren’t inclined in that way and I respect that. Let’s face it everyone has financial responsibilities.

Ye, I wanted to keep the option open to anyone who does want to send me a gift I remember reading one creator on here who’s writing I really enjoyed. I desperately wanted to tip him, but he had no option of doing this setup. It kinda sucked.

For others who might be on the fence about also creating a tip link, don’t be.

I’d rather ask for tips, than engage in shady marketing practices.

How I see it, people can’t find your work if you don’t put it out there.

In the same vein people can’t financially support you if there’s no means to do so!

I cherish all those who stop by and read my words — tip or no tip. Those who clap, highlight, leave meaningful comments, share, and return again and again to my writing.

You all don’t know how much I appreciate your presence. Hence why in telling you — you rock! 🤗

So if you can’t send me a tip now or ever, I don’t care.

You’re still precious and valuable to me. I appreciate you reading some of my work, sharing with others and simply keeping on being your precious selves.

The Creator’s economy changed things

I like how the creators economy has decentralized the gatekeeping of ways of earning an income, through our writing, work or art.

It’s nice there are more and more salary-independent ways for creatives, writers and others to monetise whatever they want to.

For me here’s what Ko-fi signifies

• A direct link between myself and those who’d want to show appreciation of my work.
• A possibility to earn, simply because people have gained value or appreciate my work. Not because I played marketing BS on them to hoodwink them in my web.
• A way to overcome my fears or doubts: things like doubting if anyone will support my work exist, yet I’m feeling the fear and sharing my link anyway.

If no one supports me so what?

If someone or many do? I’ll be doing a happy jiggy dance, that’s for sure.

Yet I’m about taking risk and betting on myself.

• betting on the merit of my work
• betting on how I show up
• betting that someone out there has been helped, entertained or inspired by my writing (well I hope so 😕)
• betting on growing my creative dreams regardless of my doubts, anxiety, or fears.

So for me opening a Ko-fi account is more than a way to allow others tip me. It’s a portal to stepping more into my creative power.

In time, I plan to explore other ways I can use the platform to offer even more value to my readers. Whilst growing my creative presence online.
