Joe Exotic Hired Me as an Investigator

Awhile back, I wrote Joe Exotic a letter. Mainly as a joke, but also out of morbid curiosity.

Nothing could have prepared me for what I’d receive in return. This man has mailed me essays filled with evidence of his alleged innocence, and contact information for witnesses he’d like me to interview.

It seems his new legal team isn’t cheap, I guess he learned the hard way why his last lawyer was free.

So, he can’t afford to hire a $200/hour PI. But he can afford to hire a bail bondsman to do the same job off the books and under the radar. We’re cheaper and more willing to…bend the law to get the job done.

Even better if that bondsman is a writer with an audience in the thousands. Big egos are easy to work with, because you can always count on them to make whatever play benefits their reputation the most.

Of course, for official purposes, I’m doing this as an investigative journalist. Just writing the J word made me cringe.

I’ve made it through a mountain of documents, video testimonies and audio recordings that seem to lend credibility to Joe’s case.

I tracked down several of the witnesses he listed. Most of them were easy enough to find, a couple had to be skip-traced and catfished to figure out where they were. Finding people who don’t want to be found has always been a talent of mine.

I’m not sure where this journey will take me, much less if the course of the investigation will have any impact on his incarceration, but I’m not one to turn down an adventure.
