I cannot tell you how many items have been given away, sold, or thrown away. Most of them I don’t miss at all. If I don’t miss them, they weren’t necessary or important to me. I had a lot of stuff in my 4-bedroom house with a double garage. I could probably have featured in a show about collectors. Many people call us hoarders. I know what a hoarder is: My brother was one, my son is one, and my ex is one. He tops them all. He saves junk.

Things I used to have that I cannot find are my stapler: it’s very old, probably more than 30 years old, and has been used almost every day during its life. It’s possible, but not likely, that it will turn up one day, but I doubt it. I could buy a new one, but they don’t make them like they used to.

Another useful item that’s frequently used now that I’m older is my tweezers. I gave up on ever finding them and bought a new pair. You won’t find me with a hairy face…

I have a water flosser… a brilliant invention… but it needs to be charged every few months, and I can’t find its charging cord. I’ve almost given up, but it’s not as cheap as a pair of tweezers.

The item that has disappeared off the face of the earth, which is only new since I’ve been living here, is my “falls alarm”. It’s bright pink, so you think it would be easy to find. It beeps when the battery is low, but I haven’t heard it.

The first time I lost it, I found it in one of my shoes. I wasn’t looking for it. It was obtained for me through the occupational therapist at the hospital. It was one of the things I didn’t have to pay for, but there’s a yearly fee on the SIM card in it. I’ll either have to find it or cancel the service. Replacement would be a very expensive exercise. So it must be found! Baby T. is a super sleuth, but he doesn’t know what he’s looking for.
