Stewardship and Service: 7 Biblical Principles for Business Leadership

The Bible speaks more about money than any other topic — because how we handle resources reflects the condition of our hearts and our capacity to love well. These seven principles offer practical guidance for leading a business in a way that honors God and serves others.

1. Everything belongs to God; we’re stewards. The Parable of the Talents (Matt. 25:14–30) teaches that resources are entrusted to us to manage wisely. Give faithfully (tithe), then manage the remainder with diligence and accountability.
2. Check your worship by your spending. Where your money flows reveals what you truly value. Direct resources toward lasting value and the wellbeing of others, not merely temporary comforts.
3. Honor obligations before personal gain. Leaders who prioritize paying vendors, employees, and commitments model integrity and sacrifice. Consider whether you’d forgo personal pay to keep your promises (cf. Matt. 20:1–16).
4. Give with the right motive. Use business resources to bless others out of sincere devotion, not merely for public recognition or self-interest. Beneficial by-products are fine so long as the motive remains pure.
5. Make Christ your first business partner. Seek biblical wisdom and prayerful guidance when solving problems and setting strategy; allow Scripture to be a primary source for ethics and direction.
6. Work to glorify God. Let purpose guide practice: weigh decisions by whether they honor God. “Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23). Treat compensation as a result of faithful performance, not the ultimate goal.
7. Live and, where appropriate, share the Gospel at work. Share Christ through actions and, when appropriate and prudent, words. Be sensitive to workplace culture but faithful in witness — asking what Jesus would do in your place.

Lead with integrity, humility, and generosity. Business can be a powerful place to serve others and reflect Gospel priorities.
