From Winter to Summer: How Our Body Reacts to The Transition

Day 13: Luteal Phase — Rest, Transition, and Mindful Adjustments

Day 13 of my 28-day menstrual cycle journey was a day of rest, reflection, and mindful adjustments. As the luteal phase progresses and the seasons transition, I’m reminded of how interconnected our bodies are with the world around us. Here’s how the day unfolded.

Morning Routine: A Gentle Start

I decided to give myself some extra rest today, setting my alarm for 6 AM instead of the usual 5 AM. That extra hour of sleep felt like a gift, especially as my body adjusts to the luteal phase. Despite the later start, I didn’t skip any of my morning rituals — cleaning the house, bathing, and worshiping. These practices ground me and help me start the day with intention.

After preparing a meal for my husband and myself, I left for my yoga session. The weather outside is a reminder that we’re in the transitional period between winter and summer. The temperatures are fluctuating wildly, reaching up to 38 degrees, and my body is feeling the effects of this shift.

Seasonal Transition and the Luteal Phase: A Double Challenge

This transitional period is always tricky. As winter says goodbye and summer begins, our bodies struggle to acclimatize. The immune system can take a hit, leading to issues like coughs, colds, or flu. Being in the luteal phase adds another layer of complexity, as this is a time when our bodies are more sensitive and vulnerable.

To support my immune system, I’ve started incorporating immune-boosting exercises into my routine, like pressing my earlobes and adjusting my pranayams. I’m also paying extra attention to my diet, opting for nourishing, home-cooked meals that support my body during this phase.

A Busy Day: Feeling the Weight of Work

Today felt unusually busy, as if all the work had been piled onto one day. While I’ve handled similar workloads in the past, today it felt like a heavy burden. It’s fascinating how the luteal phase affects not just our bodies but also our minds. Tasks that felt manageable a week ago now feel overwhelming, a reminder of the importance of being kind to myself during this phase.

Food Choices: Simple and Nourishing

Lunch and dinner were simple, home-cooked meals — nothing fancy, but nourishing and satisfying. During the luteal phase, I find that sticking to familiar, wholesome foods helps me feel grounded and supported.

Key Areas to Track in the Journal

Here’s a breakdown of how I tracked my day across key areas. Use this framework to reflect on your own experiences!

  • Today’s Mood: Reflective, slightly overwhelmed, but mindful.
  • Reflection: The luteal phase can amplify feelings of stress, but mindfulness helps manage these emotions.

  • Note: Immune-boosting practices and mindful adjustments can help during transitional periods.

  • Note: Familiar, nourishing foods are comforting during the luteal phase.

d) Productivity and Focus

  • Today’s Productivity: Managed a heavy workload but felt the weight of it more than usual.
  • Note: The luteal phase can make tasks feel more challenging, so it’s important to prioritize and be kind to yourself.

  • Note: Sleep is essential, especially during phase transitions and seasonal changes.

Reflections and Looking Ahead

Today was a reminder of how interconnected our bodies are with the world around us. The seasonal transition and the luteal phase together create a unique set of challenges, but they also offer an opportunity to slow down and listen to our bodies. By making mindful adjustments to my routine and diet, I hope to navigate this phase with grace.

As I move forward, I’m curious to see how the luteal phase continues to influence my energy and mood. For now, I’m grateful for the lessons today brought and excited to see what tomorrow holds.
