UX Case Study — SKCK-KU (Digital SKCK Creation Application)

Background

This issue began from the personal concerns of myself and my two friends, Husnamoetiaputri and Hasnanhabib. We felt that there were still some problems in the process of creating SKCK (Certificate of Police Clearance). We conducted research and in-depth interviews to validate these issues, and it turned out that these problems did exist and were experienced by some members of society. Therefore, we tried to address some of these problems with a solution that we developed, aiming to make it easier for the public to create and renew their SKCK. We hope that the SKCK-KU application can be a solution to the existing problems.

Design Process

1 — Empathize

In this phase, what we did was conduct research to identify and validate the existing problems. We carried out this research in two ways: by analyzing existing online SKCK creation websites and gathering additional information from the internet, as well as conducting interviews or in-depth discussions with two sources. During the interviews, we recorded our conversations and then created the verbatim. Below is an example of the verbatim from one of the interviews.

2 — Define

The Define phase aims to explain the problems being faced. These problems were identified during the Empathize phase mentioned above. In this phase, we created a list of pain points or issues and developed an affinity map. Afterward, we prioritized the problems and created the POV (Point of View) and HMW (How Might We). Here’s the explanation:

After identifying the issues, we grouped them into categories and drew conclusions based on the existing categories.

After drawing conclusions from several categories, we prioritized which problems to address first. The prioritization of these problems was determined based on effort and importance.

3 — Ideate

At this stage, we created a user story. A user story is a tool used to describe the features or benefits of a product from the user’s perspective, making it easier for the team to collaborate during the design process. The user story created consists of three hierarchical processes: theme, epic, and user story. Here are the results.

So, in this ideate phase, we decided to create an application that includes 5 epics we discussed. These 5 epics are:

  • Providing a registration form feature
  • Providing an SKCK payment feature
  • Creating an information feature for SKCK application
  • Providing a file upload feature
  • Providing an SKCK renewal feature

4 — Prototyping

Several activities were carried out in this phase, including creating a user flow, wireframe, design system, UI Mockup HI-FI (High Fidelity), and prototyping.

5 — Testing

Usability Testing was conducted with the respondents who participated as interviewees for the user research. This testing was carried out using the SEQ (Single Ease Question) method. The testing flow involved asking users to complete several tasks and then inquiring about the ease of completing those tasks. SEQ uses a scale of 1–7, with a passing score above 5.5, which indicates that the design and flow created are sufficiently good and easy to use. Here are the testing results:

Conclusion

It can be concluded that the results of the usability testing for the SKCK-KU application indicate that it is already quite good and easy to use. In the future, it is hoped that a method for conducting fingerprint scanning online can be developed, so that the SKCK application process can be fully conducted online without the need to visit a physical location.
