The Permanent Decree of Art

There is a quiet, modern sickness infecting the cultural landscape. It is the belief that art is merely a tool — a vehicle for social engineering, a checking of corporate boxes, or a whiteboard for the political arguments of the day. We are told that the value of a story, a painting, or a symphony lies in its utility to the present cultural moment.

This is a profound and dangerous misunderstanding.

Art does not belong to the fleeting anxieties of the contemporary era. It belongs to the eternal. The single, unyielding, and permanent purpose of art is to evoke awe. Period.

When we strip art of this mandate, we do not evolve it; we commit a form of cultural vandalism.

The Architecture of the Soul

To understand why art must demand awe, one must understand what awe actually is. Awe is not passive entertainment. It is the sudden, breath-taking realization of something greater than oneself. It is the moment the human spirit encounters deep beauty, narrative mastery, or emotional truth, and is left momentarily silenced.

Historically, the greatest achievements of human creativity understood this implicitly:

• In Music: A masterpiece does not argue a point; it bypasses the intellect entirely to trigger sincere, shattering emotion in the chest of the listener.
• In Storytelling: A powerful narrative does not lecture the audience on how to think. It builds a logically sound, emotionally resonant world that forces the viewer to confront universal truths about sacrifice, love, grief, and triumph.
• In Visuals: A magnificent painting or cinematic frame does not exist to comply with a corporate guideline. It captures an aesthetic purity that strikes the viewer with immediate, undeniable reverence.

This is the classical definition of craftsmanship. True art aims for the soul, not the intellect. It seeks to elevate the human condition, lifting us out of our daily grievances and uniting us in a shared experience of wonder.

The Failure of the Utilitarian Lens

When creators abandon the pursuit of awe in favor of ideological utility, the structural integrity of creation collapses.

A story written to preach a message inevitably sacrifices its characters to the altar of that message. Logic is bent to serve a lecture. immersion is broken to remind the audience of modern political divides. The moment a viewer or reader feels the hand of the creator shoving them toward a pre-approved moral conclusion, the magic vanishes. The awe dies.

What remains is not art. It is propaganda dressed in the clothes of entertainment.

We see the consequences of this shift across the modern landscape: alienated audiences, fractured franchises, and a pervasive creative stagnation. When an industry rewards ideological compliance over aesthetic excellence, it produces work that is dead on arrival — hollow, forgettable, and incapable of touching the human spirit. Ideologies change, political regimes fall, and modern talking points become obsolete within a decade.

An article or a movie built entirely around the politics of today will be a museum piece of irrelevance tomorrow. Only art that pursues awe remains timeless.

The Eternal Standard

Art is a sanctuary. It is the space where humanity goes to escape the noise of the world, to seek beauty, and to be deeply touched by the magnificent. It is a mirror held up not to our political factions, but to our fundamental humanity.

The decree is simple, and it cannot be bargained with: if a piece of work does not strive to trigger sincere, strong emotion, reflection, or awe, it has failed its primary duty.

Creators have a galaxy of routes to convey their personal messages — they can write essays, deliver speeches, or engage in journalism. But they must leave the sacred ground of art unpolluted. We must return to the eternal standard. We must demand craftsmanship over compliance, and beauty over bias.

Art must be permanently used to create awe. There is no alternative, there is no compromise, and there is no middle ground. Period.
