His Cleanliness Was A Lie Chapter 01

I accidentally scrolled across a post online.

[During my third trimester, I suffered from incontinence.]

[My husband tended to me himself, cleaning every little bit.]

[Those moments earned him a permanent get-out-of-jail-free card with me.]

I was just about to swipe off and close the page when a pinned photo from the poster stopped me dead.

[This is my husband, handsome, right?]

Only half of his side profile was visible in the shot, yet he carried a cold, refined, commanding presence.

But I recognized him at a glance —

That was my husband from our arranged strategic marriage, a man with severe germaphobia.

Suddenly intrigued, I clicked into the blogger’s profile.

Twenty-one years old, young and gorgeous.

Yet she looked frail and utterly dependent on others, a fragile woman who could barely stand on her own.

I took a closer look at one of her selfies.

The background felt incredibly familiar, but I just couldn’t remember where I had seen it.

I took screenshots one by one, saving them as evidence.

Right after I screenshotted the last post, her account was suddenly deactivated.

The sound of a door opening came from behind me.

Alexander Sterling was back.

He had severe germaphobia.

The first thing he did upon returning from outside was have the nanny spray him all over with disinfectant.

The smell of the disinfectant was pungent and unpleasant.

I couldn’t help but frown.

Alexander, however, acted as if he couldn’t smell it, calmly spinning all the way around.

He had an exceptionally handsome face.

Among the many candidates for a strategic marriage back then, he caught my eye immediately.

Most importantly, he said he had severe germaphobia.

Clean men are ideal — they’re exactly my type.

“But thinking about that post just now.

And then picturing Alexander bending over to personally clean up that girl’s filth, a wave of nausea washed over me.”

Dirty, so dirty.

Clothes can be laundered once soiled, but a tainted man deserves to be cast aside.

After finishing his disinfection, Alexander let the nanny take off his coat.

Seeing me sitting on the sofa playing with my phone, he walked over and planted a kiss on my forehead.

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing.

Just saw a post where a woman said during her third trimester, her husband helped wipe her bottom.”

I carefully observed Alexander’s expression.

He casually pulled a tissue and silently wiped his lips.

This was his little germaphobe habit.

I noticed it from the very first day of our marriage, right after he kissed me.

Every time he finished kissing me, he would meticulously wipe his mouth.

As if I were somehow filthy.

For a fleeting second, his eyes darted away, yet he regained his composure instantly.

“Are you dropping a hint?

Relax, Charlotte. If you ever fall pregnant, I’ll look after you properly.”

He smiled and pulled me into his arms.

I suddenly remembered where exactly I had seen the background in that girl’s photo.

It was Alexander’s home.

“Honey, let’s go back and visit your mom tomorrow.”

Alexander’s expression stiffened.

“Why so sudden? Haven’t you always disliked going back to the mansion with me?”

“Nothing, just a whim.”

I shrugged, casually tossing my phone aside. “It’s been a while since we went back, I kind of miss Mom.”

Alexander agreed.

The next day, he took me to the Sterling Family right on time.

Just as the car parked steadily in the courtyard, the villa door was eagerly pushed open from the inside.

A girl with a radiant smile ran out of the house.

I recognized her instantly — she was the woman from the post I’d seen the day before.

Alexander got out of the car before me.

Seeing Alexander, the girl smiled even more brightly.

She ran toward Alexander and threw herself into his arms.

I stayed seated inside the car, silently observing everything.

Realizing I hadn’t gotten out yet, Alexander pushed the girl away slightly.

Then he walked over to my side and opened the car door for me.

The girl was visibly disappointed, but she still followed closely behind Alexander.

“Charlotte, this is Chloe Bennett, our housekeeper’s daughter.”

Alexander introduced her to me.

Chloe, Alexander.

I suddenly smiled.

“Your names go quite well together, A beautiful spring day.”
