Artist Faces Backlash Over “Tasteful Nudity,” of the Literal Kind

In a development that has left the art world both baffled and buttercreamed, artist and social critic, Jay Ackland, has come under fire for his exhibition of hyper-realistic cakes featuring tasteful child nudity. The edible masterpieces — which include little girls on the moon, and swinging from candy ropes — have been condemned as “indecent” by concerned citizens who apparently believe dessert is the new moral battleground.

The furore began when photos of Ackland’s “Sugar and Spice” collection circulated online. Critics, primarily from the “Think of the Children” campaign and several parent groups, who monitor bakery windows like hawks, demanded that sensitive areas of the cakes be covered with “modest” fondant drapery. “If a child sees one of these cakes, how are we supposed to explain why marzipan nipples look so realistic?” thundered local activist Karen Schmidt in a viral video. “This isn’t art — it’s an edible gateway to degeneracy. He should at least keep genitalia covered. Sprinkles would suffice.”

Another protester, speaking on condition of anonymity, added: “Next thing you know we’ll be making anatomically correct gingerbread men. Where does it all end?”

Ackland, who is also the founder of SDP (a society for the appreciation of little girls) responded with the kind of incredulity usually reserved for people who complain about gravity. “They are clearly deranged,” he said, during an impromptu press conference held in his kitchen. “They’re cakes. Edible, delicious, temporary art that happens to celebrate the human form in a tasteful manner (no pun intended). Michelangelo’s David doesn’t come with a warning label and a fig leaf. I’m not baking OnlyFans content here — I’m making something beautiful that you can eat with a fork. The real obscenity is grown adults having a meltdown over marzipan.”

The artist then gestured to a particularly exquisite lemon chiffon cake depicting a serene nude girl sunbathing. “This one, inspired by the great Bouguereau, took me over 40 hours. Anyone who views it as indecent should probably go and take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror — and then maybe read some Jung.”

Support poured in from the broader artistic community, many of whom lamented the temporary nature of cake. “Jay’s work is exquisitely beautiful,” said renowned sculptor Marcus Hale. “I only wish his creations were more permanent, because they are real treasures. I could almost cry at the thought of these captivating works being eaten, and turned into poo.”

Performance artist Lila Moreau said: “Finally, someone brave enough to remind us that naked children are beautiful too, even when rendered in Swiss chocolate. The real crime would be letting the puritans win, and depriving ourselves of this wonderful eye candy.”

As the controversy rages on, Ackland has announced that he will continue baking, and concluded by quoting Lewis Carroll, who said: “Naked children are so perfectly pure and lovely… I confess I do not admire naked boys. They always seem to me to need clothes — whereas one hardly sees why the lovely forms of girls should ever be covered up.”

No doubt the famous writer would approve of Ackland’s creations, and perhaps enjoy one with a cup of tea.
