SaaStock in Seoul

If you’re reading this, you probably know about SaaS. But do you know about the SaaS ecosystem in Korea? That’s what I thought. So, PowerPT decided to host an event for SaaStock, the world’s #1 SaaS community and event, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Our goals were simple: to help increase awareness of SaaS in Korea, and to build the Korean SaaS community. That’s why we decided to hold the event in Korean. It turned out to be a great idea, as hundreds of viewers tuned in, live.

SaaStock in Seoul was held in a hybrid online format, broadcast on Airmeet and YouTube Live.

We were lucky to have some amazing speakers, including our keynote speaker — Jongyoon Kim. Jongyoon is the CEO of travel platform Yanolja, Korea’s most valuable SaaS startup. Not only is Yanolja a unicorn, it’s approaching decacorn status. Jonyoon’s keynote was titled “Digital transformation and ESG trends in the new normal.” His main message was that ESG is no longer an option, but a prerequisite for survival. And, that ESG solutions can be realized with a SaaS business model.

Panel: How to scale your SaaS startup

After the keynote, we heard a panel talk on “Scaling SaaS: Local to Global.” Our panel discussed sales strategies for Korean SaaS companies, how to create a startup team, recent trends in ESG investments, and how Korean startups can successfully enter global markets. If you’d like to hear their answers to those questions, you’ll have to watch the full video (in Korean).

Korea’s fastest-growing startup

And finally, we got to hear a pitch from Korea’s fastest-growing startup, Business Canvas. Founder Andy (Woojin) Kim is an ex-Deloitte consultant who saw a massive problem with document creation. So, his team created Typed, an online document creation tool that dramatically improves efficiency. Not only did his team develop an MVP in 7 months, but it also got a #1 rating on Product Hunt, and they raised $2.5 million. All within one year.
